After learning about the Thunderdome, I came across BHHB. I reached out to Bob and determined I wanted a taller boot. His moc toe builds on Instagram are beautiful, so it was an easy choice.
I'm as 11.5 US in almost everything. I like a roomier toe box so we went with an E width. Unfortunately, I have tall insteps. Bob mentioned the Rounder Last has a higher instep than the Shooter Last so we went with it. He was also able to put a little extra room in the left foot, where my instep is taller. Excellent fit.
Extremely smooth! Bob is awesome. We communicated directly through Instagram's messenger. He thoroughly explained leathers he had in stock and the fit of his lasts. We went over every detail of the boots. With his advice, we put together a solid plan. He kept me up to date throughout the whole process - and seeing him build them through his Instagram posts was a really nice bonus!
With the exception of extremely wet conditions. I've worn these almost everywhere from the office, cow pastures and general use.
This leather is tough but supple. It took a little while to break in. It's really interesting to see the deep red/purple come through with regular use. Overall maintenance is mostly brushing but had to do a deep clean after spilling gas on them. Depending on the lighting, the leather changes color dramatically. White light provides a deep brownish red tint while an overcast day makes them look black. They really come to life in the sunlight when the reds peekthrough the most.
We used this leather on the tongue and inner collar. It formed to the lace pattern easily in the first or second day. Its a thinner cut so it forms easily. I'd say the patina progressed faster being on the tongue.
The fit is great. The length is spot on. I decided to go with an E width and it provides ample toe room. I have a taller instep so it took a little while to stretch out but now they're perfect.
Excellent. Bob really knows how to build a boot that will last a lifetime. The finishing, spacing, symmetry and overall construction are top notch. Each thread is still in place. Nothing squeaks. The hardware is solid. I can't say enough on how well made these are.
As expected.
Good traction overall. Ive had them on various terrains and they've done fine. Just be careful on wet floors or tile.
I've had a couple MTO boots before but these were my first truly custom boots. Bob and I went through every aspect of the design together. I was able to choose from a variety of leathers, threads and soles. Bob is very transparent and reachable. You can tell he loves what he does and his craftsmanship proves it. I give him top marks on the whole process from start to finish. In fact, I've already placed an order for a custom chelsea boot from him. Bob, if you read this, thank you. Keep it up man.
