I've worn these boots for almost every activity over the last six months. Walking, hiking, office, outdoor work. Mud and water were no problem.
This is a robust leather and if oiled I could see why it would be good in a military application. Care was an interesting adventure because a burnished rough out was new to me. After a few mistakes it became clear that the best routine was to just brush and maybe saddle soap if really dirty. Break-in was fairly easy and fast. They were as comfortable at two weeks as they are now. As for watching the patina evolve, these boots were about the small details for me. There is a lot of natural character in the leather to start with and it simply expresses more and more over time.
Lots of room in this boot. With a leather insert, very comfortable on a d width foot. Toe box is a bit tapered so it would not support a wide splay but it was perfect for me.
Exactly what you would expect from John Lofgren. A very high quality construction that I couldn't find anything to complain about if I tried. Being an Eastman designed reproduction, the aesthetics are very cool. The last is based on the original military boot so maybe a more modern last could have been more comfortable but I wouldn't trade that for the looks of this one.
These boots and I are now old friends. They will definitely be in regular rotation for a long time to come.
