Tanker Boots

The boots are recreated from original World War II vintage examples, with custom-made lasts created by taking moulds from authentic military boots. Eastman Leather Clothing, established in 1984 by Gary Eastman, specializes in authentic World War II reproductions and brought its expertise in historical accuracy to this footwear collaboration.

The distinctive front closure system was developed specifically for tank operators, as laces and eyelets presented hazards in the tight confines of a tank. The short and long strap arrangement allows for easier donning and removal compared to traditional lace-up boots while maintaining ankle support. This functional design addressed the operational challenges faced by armored vehicle crews during World War II.

The collaboration between Eastman Leather Clothing and John Lofgren workshops brought these boots back into production by working from original pairs of World War II vintage examples. Custom-made lasts were created by taking moulds from the original boots, ensuring historical accuracy in fit and silhouette. All design and sewing details were recreated from the vintage examples.

The Tanker Boots feature bench-made construction on traditional lasts, with vegetable-tanned horsehide uppers and full leather lining. The boots are Goodyear-welted with a UK-made storm welt for weatherproofing capability. High stress points receive double stitching, while the shaft seam is hand-stitched for durability.

The uppers are made from horse fronts, which develop areas of broken-grain character that becomes more pronounced with wear, creating a vintage aesthetic. Materials are primarily sourced from Italy and the United States using traditional tanning methods that match the appearance and characteristics of historical garments.

The boots feature original Cats Paw heels and custom Japanese-made reproduction soles matching the original World War II US Army chequered pattern. Solid brass buckles are finished with blackening, and woven shuttle-loomed labels complete the construction details.

The Tanker Boots are built on a custom last that fits large, with sizing recommendations to go one size smaller than standard Brannock device measurements. The boots are available in UK half sizes from seven to 11.5.

Three colorways are offered: Russet Horsehide, Black Horsehide, and Burnished Havana Roughout. The boots retail for £949.99 directly from Eastman Leather Clothing, with authorized retailers such as Standard & Strange offering them at $1,355 regular price or $1,220 on sale.

Eastman Leather Clothing was established in 1984 by Gary Eastman and maintains international recognition for World War II vintage flight jacket and accessory reproductions. The company operates in-house production facilities in Ivybridge, Devon, United Kingdom, with each jacket made by one machinist who completes the entire garment.
