Fits wonderful! My favorite last is a White’s 55 in 12D. Grant Stone told me to order the same in the Floyd and in my try on, I loved the fit!

Worn through EVERYTHING. I literally checked every box because that’s what they were worn through. A couple things I’d like to highlight that the Brass Boot performs extremely well. They’re a fantastic snow and walking boot. Love the height in the toes and grip of the sole; it honestly might be my favorite sole on a boot I’ve owned. They did great for work around the house and never seemed too bulky or heavy. I would say they were an okay travel boot and an okay hiking boot. I didn’t love how without fail I always had to take them off at security because of the metal shank. For hiking, I would’ve liked a bit more grip on my foot from the upper and likely more arch support. There was, however, no wear scenario in which I was disappointed in the brass boots. They’re the boot Indiana Jones would wear if he actually had to do Indiana Jones things…

Color Change

This leather was AWESOME. When I first got them, the leather was green - like, GREEN, green. I honestly didn’t know if I could wear them for 6 months. They were hard to work into a lot of the clothes I wear and I remember early in the dome feeling tired of not just being able to wear what I want and have my boots go with it. Thought I made the wrong choice. But over time, as the green deepened and the brown came out, they we a joy to incorporate and went with everything!Believe it or not, I did not use any sort of colored polish and only conditioned them once - my dad (also a 25/26 dome participant with some awesome GS cap toe boots) told me at the end of the dome, “stop rubbing poop shoe dressing on your boots.” I only used one round of Smith’s on the uppers around month 4 or 5, just because they had lost their luster. It honestly didn’t change the color, just brought back the shine. The snow and hiking were the biggest culprits for color change here. Only thing I would’ve changed is maybe not had the tumbled leather, but honestly, I dig it on this makeup! Lastly, the lining on GS boots is amazing. And somehow seemed to make them stay dry inside longer and dry out quicker. Great stuff!

Satisfied with the Fit

I am certainly a fan of the Floyd last from GS. Great in all applications save for hiking. And with hiking, it was still fine, just would prefer my foot to lock a bit more. I would love a bit more arch support, but overall the Floyd last was great in the heel, great in length, great fit throughout the foot, and could work with light to medium weight socks easy. I’m a 12D in White’s 55 and thought surely I wouldn’t be a 12D in GS. But that’s what they recommended and they were right!

The Brass Boot is likely my favorite from GS. Maybe it’s tied with their Cap Toe Boot, but regardless, I was really impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of GS. Honestly, I’d trust them to make a dress boot! Stitching was flawless, the boots matched each other including the moc toe stitch, no loose stitching by the end of the dome, and the welt held up amazingly with no issue. The clicking was also very good, only the inside quarter of the right boot showed some excess creasing, but luckily it was on a section that doesn’t show so much.

The soles on these are awesome. I wondered at the beginning if they were going to wear more quickly than a Vibram, but they held up super well. Still a ton of tread and grin left. I love how close low profile the welt and extents of the sole/heel are, and also how well they work with the overall profile. Even though it’s a 360 welt, it is very tight and doesn’t look bulky or out of place. Great overall design by Grant Stone.

Final thoughts

Good Value

A questionable beginning to our relationship, but a rock solid one at the end, and I’m a firm believer in the Brass Boot and Grant Stone! I’m EXTREMELY pleased with the patina on the upper. I was kind of concerned going into the dome this year that I’d pace another boot for 6 months of daily wear and wish I could’ve controlled the patina more. But I picked this leather with the intent of pushing it into what Dark Olive CXL looks like and boy, did we achieve that and more! The dark brown/olive toe slowly progresses as you go back and up the boot into more close to the original color and it looks so cool and unique. Honestly love how the boots look today and wouldn’t change a thing! Just needed an all-purpose makeup to go from office, to the mountains, to work, and play!
