I wore these casually and very gently for the first 5 months. In the last two I got a bit impatient and put some work in. Hiking, car maintenance, and yard work these boots took it like a champ.
The rough Mohawk suede was much more resilient than I was expecting. I thought color change was a given with this type of leather but every bit of patina was hard fought. There was little change for the first 5 months. In the last two they really reacted well to the work. They got a bit out of their natural comfort zone but took it like a champ. There was a small bit of crocking. A new pair of jeans would make some real change quick. I think the leather has so mucH more to give and I am very excited to keep working on them. They are not quite as well broke in as I want them to be but they will get there eventually. My feet will get a bit tired standing on them all day. They have a very glove-ish feel. Which isn't quite how I like my boots.
I ordered according to the sizing suggestions. However I would definitely jump a half size on my next pair of G.S. boots. They didn't feel improperly shaped just smaller than I would like. For the first few months they were too tight to wear with boot socks. I honestly considered returning them. Eventually with a good bit of break in they stretched out enough for proper socks to be worn. Now my feet sink right in and really stick in place. I personally just like a little more room on my casual boots.
The durability on these is well above its weight class for having picked them up for just under $300. Every stitch is perfect. The finishing is gorgeous. The interior leather lining is A very nice touch. These boots truly feel solid. They're about 50% heavier than my 1000 miles. When you wear them, they really feel like a pair of heritage boots.
The sole has held up very well. It really hasn't worn down much. It's plenty grippy on concrete and tile and those sorts of surfaces. However, when you get into grass or any level of mud they will feel a bit slick. They're just not designed for much grip.
These Boots are fantastic for the price. I'm very happy and definitely going to buy another parent of grantstone boots in the future. The only drawback is I'm not sure that I'm crazy about the style. If it was a diesel boot I think I would like it a little more with the leather choice. As the nap is pushed down more and gets different color tones. I think I will like them much more. However, the fuzzy appearance is not quite my style. Overall, it seems if you're going to buy a pair of boots, don't limit yourself to the clearance section. I think with time in solid wear they will continue to grow on me.
