African Ranger – Leather Midsole
US Men's Brannock: 11.5E
STC Last: 11.5
Put in a slightly thicker insole and a adhesive heel pad.
I bought 11.5, I can live with that choice but I would go a half size smaller if I had a do over. It’s nothing slightly thicker socks, or thicker insole and a heel pad didn’t solve perfectly.

We were taking a family trip to visit Rocky Mountain National Park and a desperately needed a new pair of hiking boots and in a hurry. I wanted an easy break-in and packabity. Also I think they look cool. I got the veg tan mid sole, I wanted the confirm to foot feature.
They are supposed to be true to Brannock size. And the are close, I think my shoe sized has shrunk recently. I was happy enough either way the size so I kept them, if I had it to do again I’d get size 11s.
Easy breezy ordering. The shipping was also a breeze.
Walked across Colorado and Rock Mointain National Park in them. Since then they became one of my primary wears. They are damn comfortable and look cool.
God I love the Crazy Horse leather. It was easy to break it; there was practically now breaks in. After wearing them for 6 months they are buttery soft. They feel like a pair of Moccasins slippers with a solid sole. They are patining up nicely. They are darking in spots where there is a lot of contact. The color has become richer.
Love Love Love the ultra wide to box. Any fit issues I have is due them being a quarter size too big.
They are very utilitarian in design; which is great. The construction is great well made with great durability. The stitching is spot on. It’s unlined, and it works. It’s breathable my feet didn’t get the least hot stomping around Colorado on hot June days. Solid hardware.
The sole doesn’t have the aggressive tracking of a V-100 sole but there is solid traction on the trail. The nice wide sole distributea the impact shock. The sole is soft, it feels a little like standing on pillows. Great for all day wear.
I recommend the boot. I recommend the leather. I am fighting the urge every day to buy another pair of Rangers or something in the same leather; I’ll give I into both urges soon rather than later. It’s a great boot for packing in a suit case. It’s squished down wonderfully and then bounce back to form without blinking. It’s not fancy, but if I needed to minimize space take up in a suitcase by shoes. These would provide the best bang for the buck. I attribute to the leather more than the style. That being said great for casual wear on the trail, on the side walks of a city or in a semi nice restaurant. I don’t typically wear shorts but I wouldn’t feel stupid wearing them with shorts.
