These boots have been worn almost entirely for archaeological survey in the American Southwest. We hike roughly 5-12 miles a day and work 8 day rotations.
The leather is breaking in nicely however it took at least a full 8 days to be considered comfortable. The heel was the biggest problem, I spent time in my hotel at night rolling the leather in the heel to expedite the break in time. The leather is proving to be incredibly durable.
These boots fit me right around the sides of my foot however my foot is particularly wide. These would probably be roomy for most people. There is limited arch support so someone with an arch would need inserts. My foot is flat and these have been ridiculously comfortable.
These are constructed better than my $600 Alden’s. The stitching is perfect and overall the leather cuts are pretty good. I’d say these are constructed probably better than most of the American heritage brands.
The sole is showing limited signs of wear after about 50-70 miles of survey hiking. These will likely last as long as vibram soles if not used on concrete. Asphalt and concrete really wear soles out. Typically I wear the uppers of boots out before the soles.
Overall these are a fantastic boot for the money. They are basically a traditional military boot but with an African flair. Once broken in they are incredibly comfortable and appear to be highly durable.
