The fit is comfortably snug like I prefer for their intended role. The right boot is a tad tight but that’s because my right is 1/2 larger than the left.

More about this item

To be used for my job as a piping, pressure vessel and tank inspector in the midwest (primarily Chicago) petrochemical industry when safety toes are NOT required by the customer.

Workplace Needs

I wanted a solid pair of boots at a reasonable price. I work in an extremely dirty environment and previous boots have rarely lasted more than a year.

This gave me PAUSE. I basically read a ton of reviews at the JK web site, checked Reddit, Patina Project, etc. My PAUSE (obsessive research) worked pretty well. I did however find out a few weeks into the competition that my right foot is 1/2 size larger (while getting sized for hiking boots at the Limmer shop.) Still, I doubt that would have changed my decision for this pair.

Simple. Went online and ordered with expedited shipping. JK has this pretty dialed. Shipping and status updates were appreciated. I’ve since made a few other items from them.

Worn most days for my job as a Chicago based inspector in the petrochemical industry. My boots spent a lot of time inside tanks and pressure vessels. Also worn for life stuff…shopping, dadding, annoying east coast friends with long walks taking boot pictures, etc.

Color Change

The break-in was fast, taking maybe a week. I work in a hot dirty environment. The boots saw daily exposure to silica dust, grease, exchanger sludge and generalized petrochemical plant funk. I dry brushed them daily and more vigorously on weekends. I conditioned them with Saphir at month 3 and before an October-March patina rematch with the bronze frogs on Boston Common. The change in appearance has been dramatic but the leather remains remarkably sound considering what it was exposed to.

I did quite a bit of fit research before ordering and got pretty close. I found out during a visit to the Limmer shop (AWESOME people there) that my right foot is 1/2 size larger than the left. Smack me…I’ve been whining about right foot pain for YEARS. Even so, my 300s weren’t too bad in length. JK offers several width options and I’ve since ordered a couple wider pairs.

They’re basic work boots and budget friendly. That was my target when this started. I love how they’ve aged and the simple somewhat service boot look. No regrets in my choice.

Sole & heel

Durability

I don’t care for Christy wedge sole in either appearance or ride. They feel harsh to me. However, I can’t complain about the durability and understand why this model comes with them. Still, I’m looking forward to a resole.

Final thoughts

Good Value

These boots may be basic, budget work boots but they’re tough and were a perfect choice (gateway boot) for someone who previously treated ALL work gear as consumables that ‘might’ last a year. They will absolutely last. I believe in the brand and have since ordered 2 more pairs.
