I live in Florida and most of my days are spent in an office and my boots do not get extreme wear. They have been my constant companion on my travels over the past six months, kept my feet warm and dry in a surprise snowstorm in Chicago, walked over 20,000 steps in Savannah, and got me through walking tours of 2 museums in Jacksonville. Looking back I wish I would have kept a log on my total steps taken in these beauties over the past six months.
A special part of the thunderdome is seeing the subtle patina through the monthly pictures. Sometimes it felt like the boots looked exactly the same but when I looked back at the previous months entry I could see the rolls, scrapes, and leather aging perfectly. I brushed my boots every couple of days. The Cypress Moc leather is very tough, it doesn’t really get soft buy does mold to your feet. The color was consistent with fantastic pull-up. It is amazing to see the change in the leather color from October to now.
The 55 last has become my favorite Nick’s last. The arch support is comfortable and I can wear them all day with no pain. The break-in was easy and painless. I am an 11-D brannock and the 10.5-D fits great in the 55. I wear Darn Tough medium weight socks and swear by them, I won’t wear anything else with my boots. I have enough toe room and volume in the boot. Overall I am very satisfied with the fit and will buy a 10.5-D 55 last again.
Six months of almost constant wear and the construction and finishing haven’t shown any defects or wear. The stitching is even and I expect these boots to last until I need a resole. No complaints at all about the finishing on these boots.
I have very little wear on my soles for the amount of miles I have put on these boots over the past six months. I have some wear on my heels but plenty of life left. I wore these in Chicago during a snow storm and didn’t have any traction issues, I might have if I hit an ice patch but it was fine crunching through the snow. You can tell you aren’t wearing a crepe sole but the v-bars are very comfortable and don’t pick up rocks and twigs like lug soles. I am a fan of the v-bar and western soles.

I started wearing and collecting heritage boots in March 2024, I have bought too many pairs from several vendors. I was unsure if I was going to be able to finish the dome wearing one pair of boots for six months straight. Wearing your boots this often for this long makes you appreciate the craftsmanship, leather quality, fit and finish of the Nicks boots. Nicks boots are expensive but great value. I recommend them to all my friends who go through shoes and boots every six months. It is better to buy a pair of boots that will last years until a rebuild or resole than a pair you have to replace often.
