I really loved the deep sea blue of the Pacific Waxed Flesh and thought it would be a great fit for a LTT
I knew my size from a previous 55 Lasted boot. The Thurman accommodates toe splay well.
Dealing with Nicks customer service is always a pleasure. They are quick to respond to any need you may have.
Early on, these Pacific Waxed Flesh, LTT Roberts were a crucial component in clearing out and cleaning up a nasty plot of land behind our house. Enduring ticks and some of the worst poison ivy I have received to date. Then winter struck. Snow, sleet then a heavy coating of freezing rain, followed by a month of well below freezing temps. Determined to get my steps in, the Roberts and myself pushed through what seemed to be one of the worst winters that I can recollect in a long time. Finally winter began to break and it was time to begin helping my youngest practice softball. There were no tasks too tall for the mighty PWF LTT's. They only continued asking for more.
The Waxed CXL Roughout started life with a uniform coat of dark, deep blue (almost black) wax surface. With wear rolls began forming as the uppers started to relax. Scuffs and scrapes helped the lighter nap to pop through. The interior being smooth CXL is such an amazing feeling, almost butter like, it warms and molds quick to the users ankles and feet. The LTT pattern proved to be a bit of a different break in as the toe box collapsed over a part of my big toe I hadn't felt with the standard lace ups. Blisters formed early and calluses followed shortly thereafter. After some serious mileage and persistence they quickly became one of my most adjustable and comfortable pair of boots yet. As for care, the old horse hair brushes were put to good use along with a damp rag for heavier soilings. Smith's Leather Balm was used for maintaining the midsole and heel stack.
The Thurman 55 last is still after all this time my favorite last so far by Nicks. Maintaining that high arch last while giving you some toe wiggle room has always been a combination I have cherished well. Half size down from brannock and a cross reference Taylor's tape for width pegged me at a solid 10 E and the fit was fantastic. The Lace to toe pattern allows for further levels of adjustability, especially as the boots broke in.
The design construction and finishing are all receive top marks and are up to par with what I expect from Nicks. I enjoy how the LTT pattern are over lapping layers of leather plus a leather vamp liner. Your feetbfeel very well protected with these types of pattern designs.
The V 700 V Bar Outsole continues to have a lot of life in them. Traction was a bit dicey there for about a month as the ground was a frozen tundra but other than that I was very pleased with how the outsole performed.
I chop my heels pretty badly on the outside edge. If I had to guess id still get another 6 months out of these before id consider a heel cap replacement.
These boots really wanted to be in the work dome so bad. Between the toughness and durability of both the Pacific Waxed Flesh and the LTT pattern they could have built power lines with no problems. It was nice not throwing them to the wolves so fast as you can see the slow burn over the course of time. Their chains are now broken, it is time they build some damn powerlines.
