I make my bones as a commercial and industrial electrician. The bulk of the work that I’ve done in these boots has been on a warehouse TI job roping, running EMT ranging from 3/4”-2.5”, and some underground work. On my own time these boots have carried me through a few projects including a residential rewire, digging a trench for a pool, rearranging receptacles for a salon and roping a brand new ADU. Through every task these boots have proved worthy and able to tackle anything.
The Seidel 1964 in tan has proved to be an impeccable leather. There is an extra bit of insurance doing construction in such a tough boots. I mean really they are absolute tanks, but it is not just the security and durability that has me enamored with these boots. It’s also been a treat to see the light tan color slowly become an almost burnt looking light brown. I think that’s why we’re all in this community right? To see the scuffs and beautiful patina come in as we go through our daily lives tackling work head on. I must say the first couple of weeks wearing them was a jarring and brutal break in period, (perhaps because this is my first pair of nicks) but as they’ve slowly broken in overtime I’ve reached that coveted point in the boots life where they’ve become an extension of my body. The leather has become softer and more supple to the touch and I must say I am not just satisfied but according to my girlfriend, “absolutely obsessed” with my nicks boots!
Some background on my prior footwear habits is that I’ve always worn a size 10 sneaker and 9.5 redwings or thorogoods. But when purchasing these nicks boots I really wanted to get the fit right, so I went through the sizing process and listened to multiple videos about how they should fit. After learning that I’m actually a 9.5 brannock I decided to go with a size 9. And I have to say I’ve never had a boot fit better than these, especially after the break in process. I learned that wearing my boots a half size up was actually creating awkward loose spots within the boot which was likely causing my feet more harm than good. With the proper snug sizing of these nicks moc toes, all those worries are gone. And I also must say that the arch support is something I’ve never experienced in a work boot. I feel that it really does make quite the difference in supporting my feet and improving my posture. I feel as though I have more bounce and strength in my step. There’s no better feeling than working hard and walking proud in my tough nicks boots.
Everything about this boot is incredibly solid and tough. These boots aren’t just work horses but I think they’re actually a very good looking boot, evidenced by the countless guys asking me “hey what kind of boots are those”. You could say I’m biased as a moc toe lover but I feel that even amongst moc toe wedge boots these stand head and shoulders above the competition. From the heavy duty design, to the rugged leather laces, the subtle scuffing, brown patina coming in and the kilte as the cherry on top these are an absolutely beautiful boot. But all of that is simply a bonus on top of the fact that these are hands down the toughest, most durable boot I’ve ever worn. Everything about this boot screams, we’re here to work hard and complete a job well done.
If there are any reservations left from any readers or would be nicks boots owners, just no one thing, every worker needs the right tools to a job done right. Maybe you think the price is too high or there’s no need for such a thick boot, or I’ve heard that break in period is insane. Guess what man the price of all of those factors is absolutely worth the result you get. It’s not just a ridiculously durable boot but practically a second set of skin once broken in. Give them a shot and you’ll find that this level of durability and craftsmanship is what every blue color working man truly deserves.
