Nicks Handmade Boots
These have lived most of their life in the office, with many extra hours clearing snow and keeping my feet dry in the rain and spring melt.
There was nearly no break-in displeasure as Waxed Flesh is quite easy to mold between the pliable leather than heat-activated wax. Care was mostly just brushing, and the occasion damp rag to clean off mud when needed. Happy to see the nap coming through the wax in the areas that rub on each other, my floor boards, and my pants.
As a high arch & high instep foot haver, you cannot beat the 55 last. This my second pair built on the 55 and I have another on order because I am so happy to have found something so tailored to my needs. I found the standard half size down works perfect for the length of my foot. With a little higher volume foot, I needed to go to an EE width for proper fit, even though the width of the across my feet is closer to a D width.
Toughest boots around, and finished with care. I did not notice any issues with stitching, wonky alignment, damage from manufacturing equipment, etc. One funny little quirk: my right boot is about a quarter inch taller in the shaft than the left. This caused no discomfort or issues and I only noticed it during Thunderdome photo shoots.
I have had this sole on 3 pairs of boots now and it has never let me down. They are long-lasting and give me confident traction on smooth surfaces, dirt, grass, woods, snow, & in wet conditions. Not the best for ice, but really nothing is, unless it has metal spikes.
The heel caps are holding up well to heel strike and the tread makes a big difference in grip vs. other heels I’ve had in the past.
These are not cheap boots, but I think one can easily get their money’s worth out of them as with a little care and a couple resoles they could last decades. After six months of daily wear, I feel I have barely scratched the surface of their longevity. I would tell anyone that wants boots they will not need to replace to go with Nicks.
