I saw this come across on a limited edition release in spring of 2025 and thought it was a great natural tone. In seeing how other Predator leather releases had developed patina over a short amount of time I thought this would make a killer boot. …and it hasn’t disappointed.
I measured my foot multiple times using tracings, circumferential tape, and on a brannock. Additionally, I had previously purchased a 10D HNW Nicks traveler and found it to be a smidge wide which led me to the 10C decision on this pair.
Order was easy to place on Nicks website. Then, just had to sit back and wait.
For the past five months, my Next Predator Natural MTO have been my daily drivers. I’ve worn them through just about every aspect of my life. From long, physical workdays, in professional meeting environments, and on out-of-state work trips. They’ve been with me on the sidelines watching my kids play soccer, on my feet when I found out my mom had cancer, out on hikes when I needed some fresh air, and after a little brushing - on date nights with the love of my life.
The Horween Predator Natural leather has evolved in unanticipated (to me) ways. It started out as a muted, matte natural tone—almost dusty and understated—but with wear it has deepened dramatically, picking up richer caramel browns and subtle contrast throughout. What stands out most is how responsive the leather is. Scuffs, scratches, and pressure marks show up, but they don’t feel like damage—they are easily buffed out or left in place if desired to tell their story. Really the defining trait of Predator: it burnishes. High-contact areas have begun to take on a smoother, notably darker sheen, while lower-wear areas keep more of that original matte look. The leather has also softened and molded to my foot over time, becoming more comfortable without losing its structure. It feels broken-in but still substantial. What started as a fairly uniform boot now has real depth—creases at the vamp, darker tones along flex points, and a lived-in look that reflects how often they’ve been worn. Overall, they’ve held up extremely well. In summary, I bought them for their original new look tone… I’m keeping them for becoming the boot I didn’t know I needed.
I’m a fan of the HNW last so far… while I’ve never worn a high arch 55 last as I have fairly neutral arches, I’ll say I’ve got another HNW last on the way. Perfect toe comfort and an all around great looking profile from the top down. I’m a 10.5 B on brannock and the 10 C HNW worked out perfectly.
The way that this boot has molded to my foot has been outstanding. While I’ve never had any hotspots or any significant pain during the break-in they have nonetheless given space where needed and held firm where it matter most. The leather keeps my ankle locked in while allowing my forefoot to flex as needed. The construction seems more robust than anything I’ve ever worn. Stitching is artisan, and the Vibram 430 mini lug sole provides as much grip as I’ve found I’ve needed doing everything I have done with these boots.
The Vibram 430 Mini-Lug outsole has been a great all around sole. Great traction to sleek aesthetic balance. It is much more durable than I anticipated. After 5 months of near daily wear there are only minimal wear marks.
Same as the rest of the sole. I’m very happy with the traction and durability.
These boots surprised me with how quickly the Predator Natural leather aged. As I’ve said before, I bought these boots because I liked the pale light brown aniline leather but after 5 months of wear they have developed into a beautiful complex caramel brown with areas of high sheen contrasted with remnants of the original tone - they are the boots I didn’t know I needed and now I can’t imagine going without. I would absolutely recommend the Predator Natural leather!
