Nicks Handmade Boots
I have worn my Urban loggers between all the parts of my school year. Bouncing between office work and hauling AV equipment across campus, and hiking in the woods for Christmas trees, working on my car in the snow, and generally just doing life. They've handled it all.
The shackleton leather initially had an oily feel to it with a good amount of pull up. The lower half of the boot has darkened a lot with brushing, moving around the oils and my guess would be the silicone in the leather making it darker around scratches. The upper has developed a nice gloss, from brushing only, no conditioner these 6 months. The leather was broken in from day one.
I love the arch on the 55 last. I have badly pronated ankles and flat arches, so these boots give me great support when hiking. It's a bit much on flat concrete, but still miles better than sneakers. I sized these too narrow and big, so in the future I'd go down in length and up in width. The half sock liner is placed so the end is right on the part where the ball of my foot made an indent, and that causes some pain/discomfort on long days since it's a slight edge.
These boots are robustly built, and I've had no issues other than the sock liner that is oddly placed. The leather is much more pliable than I'd want in a work boot, so the boot has stretched to fit me a lot more than I anticipated.
The honey lug has great grip and softness for me. I'm on my feet probably 60-70% of the time so they don't wear as fast as a wedge, but still add some bounce with the stacked heel. I don't like how much mud they track.
I would definitely recommend Nicks to anyone needing a hardcore work boot. They are probably more boot than I need, but man it feels awesome stomping around in a pair of handmade boots that can tackle nearly anything. I need to give Frank's and White's a try next I think.
