I love the original style of the 919 and I wanted to emulate it for my own journey learning to make my own boots
Using lisa sorrels advice and last charts i initially settled on a 9.5d and after making two pairs on that last i decided to get a 9.5f for a little more wiggle room. The 55 last works perfectly for my foot shape.
I ordered the leather from maverickleathercompany.com and the boot supplies from panhandleleather.com. The soles and the lasts came from sorrellnotionsandfindings.com
Mostly walking around the office but I did get on the factory floor some, and I spent a day in the shop showering the new boots in grinding dust and welding sparks. I even got an afternoon of of yardwork in.
The canyon black has picked up some very nice wrinkles in flex spots, some light scuffs and scratches are already showing the teacore underneath
I made these to a size I know fits me well, no issues there. Like all the other 55last boots I've made for myself they fit and feel great
My craftsmanship is pretty solid on these. I've made several pairs since these that are neater, I have some minor separation in the heel stack I'm letting go to see what happens. For a pattern I pulled off of worn out boots and modified/beefed up for my own purposes I'm pleased!
Good sole so far, relatively slip resistant. Tracks workshop dust pretty good though.
Good heel so far, relatively slip resistant.
These have a steel shank in the arch with a skived piece of vegtan on top, a good combination it's settling nicely like a full leather stack but it didnt leave me with nearly as much of a bump on the outsole. I should of made the heels with larger pieces of leather so I didn't undercut my welting as steeply. So far theyre holding up well and I'm ready to keep going!
