Wore these every day for six months straight. No rotation. Office during the week, motorcycle commuting daily, and long rides across Texas on weekends. Took them to multiple motorcycle shows as well. Two memorable occasions was Born Free Texas and Texas Fandango motorcycle shows.
The Horween Java Waxed Flesh was the standout. It took a little time to break open, but once it did, the transformation was incredible. The color started to shift, texture came alive, and the wear patterns really showed. Easily the best part of the boot. Break in wasn’t terrible. The right heel was bothersome during break in but slowly came around. I brushed several times a week and conditioned with Bick 4 one time around 4 months. I loved the Horween Java Waxed Flesh.
Went with a size 10 (I’m normally a 10.5). Length felt right overall, and the toe box was roomy which I liked and appreciated over long days. I added a thin insole from the start. Currently the boot is very comfortable.
The construction feels solid overall. I’m most impressed with the Java Waxed Flesh. That said, I did experience some sole separation starting within the first month of wear. It didn’t stop me from continuing to wear them but that was disappointing. From a design standpoint, the overall shape and profile feels larger and more bulky than what I prefer in a moc.
The wedge sole was comfortable for daily wear and long days on my feet, especially with how much walking and riding I do. That said, I did experience some sole separation starting within the first month of wear.
Honestly, about a month in I realized I didn’t like them. It had more to do with the profile and shape and my personal preference. I respect the boot and especially the Horween Java Waxed Flesh but the profile just didn’t match what I like. The sole separation was disappointing too. Especially because it really happened within the first month of wear. I wouldn’t buy Truman again but I love how the boot and the Java Waxed Flesh turned out. Loved being apart of this contest and putting a good pair of boots to the test. Shout out to Horween for making such an incredible leather and Shout out to the Stichdown Patina Thunderdome. Had a blast!
