Always wanted a taller boot, this was 8 inches which was perfect. Leather seemed a good option and seems to go with my style of clothes. I looking to buy things that will last a decent amount of time. I'm getting older and getting sicker of living in a disposable society, so quality made boots is high on my list of things to get and replace.
Too much time spent on Reddit!! I went against the manufacturer advice of going half size down, and went true to size instead. This was a good move as these boots fit perfectly.
Perfect, no issues whatsoever. Shipping was a little expensive getting them here to Australia, but there's no (or very little) boot culture here in Australia.
I have worn these boots virtually every day over the past 6 months. When the Thunderdome commenced, it was spring going into Summer, where we get temperatures from the mid-30s to mid-40°C. Worn everyday in the office, plus weekends for leisure, light gardening work, and holidays. Currently, these boots are with me in London, travelling through the UK and will soon be in Berlin and travelling through Germany. These boots have held up through all these conditions with ease and have not missed a beat. Well and truly broken in and are now extremely comfortable.
These were comfortable straight out of the box, however they did become much more comfortable after 2 months of solid wear. The patina has evolved into a deep brown since new. Creasing has added greatly to the comfort and the leather in general has been perfect. A few scratches along the way have also not been an issue, self-healing through regular brushing and burnishing. The leather laces have also held up well. These have been only been cleaned with saddle soap once, all other times have only been with a damp rag and dried in the shade outside. And only 2 light applications of Bick 4 conditioner at the 2 and 4 month marks.
Truman suggests going a half size down from brannock, however most advice online say TTS. I ended up going TTS and this worked perfectly for my foot. No issues at all with sizing, support or wearability. The only minor issue I note is the toe box is not structured and ended up collapsing slightly, which has reduced the "beefiness" of the boot, but it still looks and feels substantial, which I like in a boot.
The boot felt extremely comfortable right out of the box, and only became more comfortable over time. The construction feels right for my foot type and is finished very well. If I could make one suggestion to Truman, it would be for them to recess the stitching into the lugs. The stitching was over the top of the lugs, which immediately started wearing away.
I really enjoyed the heavy lug sole, I wasn't sure initially, but having worn them in all conditions (except for snow), I thoroughly endorsed the heavy lugs and would absolutely buy them again. One thing I'm not a huge fan of, and this is also just a minor issue, is the "Truman Boot Co" designed into the lugs. It's definitely unique, however it didn't grow on me and would probably do without it.
No issues with the heal, very comfortable and cannot fault it.
In my opinion, these are very well-made, durable, and comfortable boots made for everyday wear. I would definitely buy another pair in a different leather without hesitation and would recommend this to others. For the price, these are excellent, especially if you get them during a sale. The only issues I highlighted have been around personal preferences and not necessarily manufacturing issues. Despite the issues some people have online regarding this maker, I personally have no issues with them and the quality of the boot speaks for itself.
