I originally had no plans to enter any boots this year. I picked these up in February 2025, but found out later that week that I was laid off from my job. I wasn't in a rush to wear them, knowing that I'll wear them for the rest of my life (and probably will be buried in, haha), but the sudden loss of income was an unexpected mental hurdle to start wearing an expensive pair of boots that are also a piece of art. Suddenly it was late summertime, and I decided to enter them. Unsung's customer service was great. I communicated with them for a little over a year before these were completed. Grant went through several hides and swatches with me in the shop, showed examples of what different thread colors would look like on a scrap piece of the hide we selected, and sent photos almost every day as they were being constructed. 10/10Use & wear
I've worn these around my home office, walking my dog, walking in urban environments. They've been to several concerts and sporting events. The first big event I wore them to was a John Prine memorial concert, which made both experiences even more memorable.
Leather
It was an easy break-in process. The vamp feels soft and smooth on my foot. The shaft has slouched a bit from wear (which I like the look of), but still stands up when I'm not wearing them. The shaft isn't too bulky under my pants and is flexible to move with my leg when walking.
Fit
The fit was spot-on. Right away, they felt like a part of my foot. Practically no heel slip. Very easy to put on from the beginning, which is often difficult in new engineers.
Craftsmanship
I catch myself sometimes just holding and looking at them. They're a piece of art, in my eyes (I literally had them on my desk for the first few weeks I had them 😆). I really like the difference in texture between the camp and the shaft, which I presume is because of the lasting process. The stitching is very uniform and precise. Nothing about these boots feel excessive or showy. Easily the most compliments I've received about any piece of clothing.
