These boots have been with me 6/7 days a week through the fall, winter, and spring: from daily neighborhood walks to subway stations to ferry ports to airports to strenuous hikes through gravel, snow, and river creeks. I trusted them to wade through two East Coast snowstorms and long rainy days -- truly workhorse boots.

This leather wears incredibly well, proving to be malleable and durable over time. I oiled them every two months, using Saphir Renovator. The fit was spot on, and the vamp and toe box have settled beautifully; the profile has flattened out and lost that "bulbous” look. In cold weather, leather is not enough insulation sometimes, so I added a wool insole which helps. Functionality aside, this is a beautiful leather. It has transitioned from the classic british tan to a shade of brown that is rich yet subdued.

Satisfied with the Fit

My first pair of six-inch heritage boots -- Iron Rangers -- took three winters to break in (yeah…brutal) because I chose a D width. I’m glad White’s offers custom width options because I opted for the E width, and it made the break in process painless compared to my last experience. Some minor friction in the midsole initially, but the heel has always “snapped” into place. Arch has been fine -- not too pronounced and I can stand in them for hours on end.

Finishing

I specifically chose the Lace-to-Toe (LTT) construction because I have had issues with tight insteps and this design allows me to loosen the laces more in that area. I've also grown to appreciate the gusseted tongue: these boots can wade thru foot-deep snow and long rainy hikes and my socks have stayed dried throughout. Finishing is on point -- no complaints there.

Traction
Durability

Vibram 430 is a sole I can wear anywhere around town and in the woods. It provides reliable traction in snow and wet river rocks without the clunky weight of a heavy logger lug. They are wearing very slowly despite the miles I’ve put on them.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

I expected a lot and am still surprised by the versatility and weatherproofness of these LTTs. These boots have survived total submersion in creeks/snow and miles of hiking while maintaining perfect comfort. They are overbuilt in the best way possible and are just now hitting their prime. These boots have allowed me to disregard the terrain ahead, and I look forward to adventuring with these trusted boots for many years to come.
