I saw them on Depop relatively early in my boot buying journey and they were only like 80 bucks so I had no other choice than to buy them and hope they fit.
It was the only size available and it was what I wear in most other boots.
I placed the order and a few days later they showed up ready for whatever I put them through
Over the six months of the thunder dome, I wore these boots nearly every day of the week while working as a historic preservation intern at Tumacacori National Historical Park. As my first job after getting out of high school I assisted in the safe assembly of scaffolding on the west end of the church to be used in assessing and repairing a structural crack in a wall and another more concerning crack on the dome of the church. I made adobe blocks made up of dirt and sand mixed, then molded in wood forms and set to dry. I did a lot of weed whacking, leaf blowing, sidewalk brushing, bathroom cleaning, trash picking, vacuum running, dirt scooping, and wood working but I also did a whole lot of learning about my local culture and history which provided an overall great experience and first job. These boots didn’t fail me once and they are the most comfortable boots I’ve got.
This leather has become quite soft and robust allowing for great flexibility and excellent ankle support for either hike or preservation project. The wax has all but worn away in some spots and in some it has been left unscathed. The leather has rolled and folded offering slipper like comfort and diverse coloration and patina opportunity. Cinnamon waxed flesh can take a serious beating and still keep kicking. For care I just brush off the big stuff and if it’s really caked on there I use a dab of water to help break it up but I’ve used no product to condition them because I’m not sure what would be the best to rejuvenate them while keeping the texture they’ve developed.
I think these boots are really comfortable, maybe a half size shorter would fit me better but I still wear them with no problem. I feel like my arch sits in the right spot and my toes have a good bit of room from the end but the eyelets are all really close together when tied. I like the look and they’re very comfortable but I don’t know if it’s necessarily proper fitting.
These boots are superior in craftsmanship, the quality of materials throughout is just excellent and these boots have eaten up everything thrown their way. All of of the stitching is solid and well place. The hardware is very nicely finished, though I would like to have some of the eyelets swapped for speed hooks to help me move quicker in the morning. The sock liner has started to delaminate from heavy use but hasn’t come off fully and stays in place when I walk. If I don’t wear them for a day or two they’ll squeak cartoonishly for at least a week of constant wear, after I sound normal when walking. Sometimes you just have to embrace the squeak.
The fire and ice hybrid sole has held up excellently, they’ve started to develop some baldness but still have quite a bit of wear left. These soles have walked many miles and gone over rocks, sand, gravel, grease, mud , screws, sawdust and other unsavory places keeping me upright all the time with a little squish to ease my step.
The matching heel for the fire and ice sole held up equally well, it has definitely worn down at an angle showing how I walk. I still think these heels have a lot of miles left in them and they will continue to keep me grounded wherever they take me.
These boots will always be special to me, as they sort of embody my whole experience at Tumacacori NHP and I will always be grateful for and proud of that role. These boots will see many more adventures and hopefully display what excellence White’s boots are intended to stand for.
