I’ve been following Willie’s on IG for a long time now. Back in December I went on a trip to the Philippines with my girlfriend and had the pleasure of selecting the style and materials for these boots in person.
Willie took all the measurements himself.
Total time took about 5 months. My girlfriend also purchased engineers so there were two pairs of boots in the order.
I’m a fourth grade teacher who rides motorcycles daily. I knew I needed a boot that was durable enough to ride with and looked good at work. All the patina and scarring are the results of daily rides and working on my feet all day. Throw in some daily walks through the neighborhood and a few trips and they are the worn beauties you see before you. Yes they set off a few TSA lines and were the subject of numerous questions by my students, but these six months were a blast.
The leather was very stiff and robust; I knew from past experience that these boots would be a beast to break-in, and I was right. The thickness was perfect for protection while riding a motorcycle and also looked great off the bike. The numerous scratches and marks I acquired over six months of daily wear tell the story of everywhere I wore them. They eventually darkened and became pliable, becoming a beautiful dark caramel in color.
I knew these would fit perfectly, as Willie himself took all the measurements perfectly. They were incredibly stiff and rigid for the first few weeks and I definitely had my doubts. Once the leather began to become more pliable and they shaped to my feet, I knew they would work out perfectly. After six months, I can stand on my feet all day and use them for long walks if needed.
I was in awe when I first unboxed them. From the perfect stitching to all the extras (knife sheath, lineman patch, speedhooks) Willie and his team created a true work of art. I own several pairs of handmade boots, but these received the most attention and compliments of them all. In addition to being beautiful, they also served a purpose. I knew the rugged design and construction would protect me if my bike ever went down. Luckily, I didn’t have to put that to the test. Six months later, only the laces need replacing.
This is my fourth pair of boots with Dr. Soles. They are not just beautiful to look at, but they also served a purpose. After six months, they still have plenty of wear left in them. The grip they provided was perfect for riding a motorcycle as well as walking in the rain. Unlike some of my other boots, I never slipped once.
These boots also have a special story. I was traveling to the Philippines with my girlfriend who hadn’t returned home in over thirty years. I contacted Willie and he welcomed me to come visit the shop and get measured in person. The gang at Willie’s were beyond friendly and hospitable. It was a lot of fun selecting the leather, getting measured, and choosing additions that would make these boots one of a kind. My girlfriend also hand some engineers made for herself, but I couldn’t convince her to wear them for six months straight. 😂
