The Service Boot is a traditional work boot style manufactured by Santalum, an Indonesian bootmaker based in Bandung, West Java. As the company's primary model, the Service Boot features hand-welted construction using traditional bootmaking methods and premium leather materials.
The Service Boot design draws from vintage American work boot aesthetics of the 1950s and 1960s. Each pair is made to order with customization options for construction, materials, and fit.
Santalum offers multiple construction methods for the Service Boot. Options include hand-stitched Veldtschoen construction that combines stitchdown and Goodyear welt techniques, as well as standard Goodyear welt and Blake stitch construction.
Boot interiors feature channeled insoles with natural cork filler for comfort and moisture absorption. Structural components include leather toe puffs and heel stiffeners that maintain the boot's shape over time.
The Service Boot uses brass nails throughout construction. Eyelet options include nickel-plated brass eyelets in configurations of seven eyelets or five eyelets with two speed hooks. Additional features include low profile pull-tabs and gusseted tongues.
The Service Boot is constructed on Santalum's Last No. 5, which features a rounded almond toe shape. Toe structure options include unstructured, partially structured, and fully structured toe boxes. Plain toe and cap toe variations are available.
Santalum primarily uses Horween leather from the United States for Service Boot production, including Chromexcel horsehide. Through retail collaborations, SB Foot Black Klondike leather is also available. For customers seeking locally sourced materials, Indonesian cowhide is offered with chrome-tanned construction and a hand-applied wax finish.
The Service Boot can be constructed with various sole configurations. Options include natural leather midsoles, Dr. Sole Supergrip Burlap half soles, Dainite soles, and Vibram Eton soles. Heel options include natural low block stacked leather heels.
The made-to-order model allows for extensive customization. Customers can select construction method, toe style, leather type, sole configuration, and hardware options. Personalized insole branding is available.
Sizing requires detailed measurements including ball, waist, instep, heel, and ankle circumferences. An additional charge applies for measurements exceeding 29 centimeters.
Standard Service Boot pricing ranges from approximately $200 to $280, depending on specifications and currency exchange rates. Collaboration boots produced with retailers such as Pigeon Tree Crafting are priced between $475 and $495. International shipping costs approximately $50 to $70.
Service Boot orders have standard lead times of approximately two months between ordering and delivery. Collaboration boots have production turnaround times of three to four months.
