At the last minute, I changed my plans and ordered this black pair of Alden boots - a tribute to my father and his preferred color when it came to apparel. I wore them hard and took care of them well, just as he would have. There are lots of things I like about these boots and some things I don’t. Wearing them regularly was an exercise in acceptance - not unlike the grieving process. There were happy moments (these boots won the album cover contest!) and an equal number of sad days. Almost everyday boots. If I could only have one pair of boots for everything, these would be them.

I didn't baby these, but took care of them and didn't purposely beat them up for the competition. Brushed most evenings after wearing them with horsehair brush, about once a week with a stiffer nylon brush. Didn't use saddle soap, conditioner, or wax, though I will give these a deep clean in the next week or so.
Worn for office/work from home; light yardwork; rain and snow; occasional hikes. Worn with casual outfits and grubby clothes...."Read the full review

On more than one occasion I got the opportunity to explain ordering from Onderhoud or how the dome works to a bunch of high school kids. Those conversations were definitely interesting!

Many months of walking 2-3 miles/day to and from work in DC. Lots of rain, snow, and office chair heel clicks. Usually wearing black denim, hence the light crocking.
Wore these to fancy wine dinners, in cellars, on Oregon beaches, in Georgia clay, through many vineyards and countless TSA scans. They have been complemented by many customers that incorrectly thought I couldn’t get any stranger (ever heard of a Discord dedicated to handmade boots?) and hyped up by passersby on the streets of NYC.
