History
TAFT was established in 2014 by Kory Stevens and Mallory Stevens. The brand began as a purveyor of men's no-show socks before shifting to footwear production, following a viral post on Reddit that drew attention to its shoe designs. In 2018, the company secured initial external funding from investors, including NBA players Dwyane Wade and Andre Iguodala. In November 2019, TAFT opened its first brick-and-mortar store in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.
Manufacturing
TAFT produces its footwear in Spain and Portugal. Artisans in these countries use traditional shoemaking techniques during the manufacturing process.
Construction and materials
TAFT uses a variety of materials in its shoes, such as suiting wool, woven upholstery fabric, and leather sourced from tanneries including Charles F. Stead. The company employs different construction methods, including the Stitchdown technique, which involves hand-sewing the upper to the sole.
