Tempesti Camello Asportabile is a teacore leather produced by Tempesti, an Italian tannery founded in 1946 and located in Ponte a Egola, Tuscany. The leather begins with Tempesti's supple Camello tannage, a classic natural vegetable-tanned leather, which is then overdyed with a removable ("asportabile") pigment. This creates a thin dye layer that wears away quickly through everyday use, revealing the natural tan leather beneath and producing dramatic patina that resembles oil-rubbed bronze.
The leather exemplifies the teacore effect, where surface color intentionally wears to expose contrasting underlying leather. Tempesti has produced vegetable-tanned leather for over 70 years using traditional methods, and is a founding member of the Consortium of Vegetable Tanneries.
Camello Asportabile combines traditional vegetable tanning with a specialized overdye finish. The base leather uses Tempesti's Camello tannage process, producing a natural tan vegetable-tanned leather with a supple hand feel. The distinguishing feature is the application of "asportabile" (removable) pigment as an overdye layer.
The teacore construction features an ultra-thin dye layer designed to wear away rapidly. Unlike standard teacore leathers that develop patina gradually, Camello Asportabile's thin removable dye reveals the underlying natural vegetable-tanned leather in a short period of time. The patina development produces visual contrast resembling oil-rubbed bronze rather than conventional leather aging patterns.
Tempesti produces Camello Asportabile using 100% vegetable tanning methods at their facilities in Ponte a Egola, San Miniato, Tuscany. The tannery's vegetable tanning formula has remained unchanged for over 70 years. Leather is colored and oiled in cask during production.
The company operates two factories in Ponte a Egola specializing in different processing phases. Tempesti produces vegetable-tanned shoulders and single butts with available thicknesses ranging from 0.8 to 4.00 mm. All products comply with specifications from the Consortium of Vegetable Tanneries, of which Tempesti is a founding member.
Camello Asportabile is available in multiple overdye colors. Brown Overdye features T. Moro Brown pigment applied over the natural tan base, creating dramatic patina that reveals rich copper tones beneath the dark brown surface. The brown variation is produced exclusively for Oak Street Bootmakers and develops patina resembling oil-rubbed bronze through everyday wear.
Oak Street Bootmakers uses Camello Asportabile in multiple footwear styles including the Cap-Toe Trench Boot, Cap-Toe Lakeshore Boot, and Cap-Toe Trench Oxford. The leather appears in walnut overdye and brown overdye color variations. All Oak Street Bootmakers products featuring this leather use hand-lasted 360-degree Goodyear welt construction.
The leather is suitable for footwear, bags, belts, and accessories production. The teacore properties and rapid patina development make it particularly appropriate for applications where visible wear patterns are desired.
