American Heritage 6" Moc Toe

Originally released in 1964 as the "Hike n' Camp" to serve as the official boot of the Boy Scouts, the design was quickly adopted by construction workers and became standard equipment at work sites across North America. The boot combines heritage styling with modern comfort technology including a MAXWear Wedge polyurethane outsole and Poron 4000 cushion insole system.

The American Heritage 6" Moc Toe utilizes Goodyear Storm Welt construction, a method where the leather upper is stitched to the outsole. This construction technique provides a wider platform for stability, creates a moisture seal between upper and sole, and allows the boot to be resoled and repaired. The construction method dates to the mid-nineteenth century and remains sought-after in contemporary footwear manufacturing.

The upper features tobacco gladiator oil-tanned full-grain leather. The leather undergoes tanning with real tobacco oil, which provides its golden-brown color and enhances resistance to water and weather exposure. The vamp includes cotton drill lining for breathability. Contrasting white triple stitching runs along the upper for durability, and the moc toe features characteristic u-shaped piping at the toe box.

A composite fiberglass shank provides structural support and stability through the boot's midsection. The 6" unlined shaft includes a padded rolled collar for ankle comfort and finger loops for ease of entry.

The boot incorporates a removable Poron 4000 Comfort Cushion Insole with integrated arch support and comfort pads positioned under the ball and heel strike areas. This dual-density Ultimate Shock Absorption footbed system sits on a rubber midsole to provide impact protection during extended wear periods.

The tobacco oil-tanned leather requires minimal break-in, with most users reporting six to 12 wears before the boot fully conforms to the foot. The cotton drill vamp lining facilitates air circulation while the unlined shaft maintains flexibility during movement.

The MAXWear Wedge outsole uses high-quality polyurethane construction for slip resistance and extended wear life compared to standard rubber wedge outsoles. The wedge design flexes more readily than traditional work boot outsoles, absorbing impacts and reducing stress on feet and ankles when working on difficult surfaces. The outsole maintains traction on loose gravel and wet or oily surfaces.

The boot meets ASTM F3445-21 slip-resistance standards and carries electrical hazard rating under ASTM F2892-18 standards. The electrical hazard protection allows the boot to withstand 18,000 volts at 60 Hz for one minute. The outsole is non-marking for use in environments where floor protection is required.

Production occurs at Thorogood's Wisconsin facilities, with the American Heritage line designated as Union-Made in the USA. The boots use a combination of domestically sourced and globally sourced components, maintaining the company's commitment to domestic manufacturing while incorporating international materials where necessary.

The American Heritage 6" Moc Toe is offered in multiple configurations beyond the standard 814-4200 model. The 804-4200 provides identical construction with an added steel safety toe for compliance with workplace safety requirements. Colorway options include tobacco brown (814-4200), Trail Crazyhorse brown (814-4203), black with ivory sole (814-6201), and black with black sole (814-6206).

An 8" version (model 814-4201) extends the shaft height for additional ankle support and protection. All versions maintain the same moc toe construction, MAXWear Wedge outsole, and Goodyear Storm Welt build method.

The boots are manufactured in three width options: B (narrow) in sizes nine through 13, D (standard) in sizes seven through 14, and EE (wide) in sizes six through 14. This width selection accommodates varying foot dimensions while maintaining the boot's structural integrity.
