The Scout utilizes 360-degree Goodyear welt construction, which attaches the upper to the sole through a strip of leather welted to both components, allowing the boot to be resoled multiple times.[1] The construction includes a genuine leather midsole measuring 4.5mm thick with an additional high-density rubber midsole layer for shock absorption.[1] A cork bottom filler sits between the midsole and insole, molding to the wearer's foot over time.[1] The boot incorporates a steel shank for arch support and stability.[1]

The upper consists of hand-buffed Portuguese top-grain cowhide leather at 2.2mm thickness.[1] The leather undergoes waxing treatment to provide water resistance.[1] The heel features stacked leather construction with a Vibram heel protector.[1]

The Scout features a Vibram 2040 Fighter sole, a commando-style rubber outsole with recessed lugs designed for traction across varied terrain.[1] The recessed lug pattern provides versatility for both outdoor use and casual wear.[1] An additional thin midsole layer, constructed from either soft rubber or dense foam, sits above the primary sole for shock absorption on hard surfaces.[1]

The boot includes anti-rust brass eyelets and waxed cotton laces in brown.[1] Signature red heavy-duty stitching runs along the upper as a design detail.[1] The interior features a tan genuine leather removable insole.[1]

Urban Shepherd Boots produces the Scout at a family-owned workshop in Benedita, Portugal.[2] The workshop has maintained traditional Portuguese shoemaking methods across five generations.[2] The company was founded by Tiago Máximo with the goal of preserving traditional craftsmanship methods.[2] Urban Shepherd emphasizes the use of natural, locally sourced leather from Alcanena tanneries rather than engineered or reconstituted materials.[2]

The Scout's design draws inspiration from the Serra da Estrela mountain range in Portugal.[1] The 6.25-inch shaft height provides ankle support while remaining shorter than traditional work boot heights.[1] The boot's profile balances durability requirements for outdoor activities with versatility for casual wear contexts.[1]
