Visvim is a Japanese menswear brand based in Tokyo. The brand was established in 2001.
Hiroki Nakamura founded Visvim in 2001 following his work as a designer at Burton Snowboards. The brand began with a focus on footwear and introduced the FBT shoe, which is a reinterpretation of the Native American moccasin with a sneaker outsole. Over time, Visvim expanded its offerings to include apparel, drawing from vintage Americana, Japanese Edo-period garments, and other traditional clothing styles.
Visvim combines traditional methods and modern technology in its manufacturing process. The brand works with artisans from different regions and uses natural dyes and materials that develop individual characteristics with use.
Visvim uses a variety of materials and construction techniques. The brand applies natural dyes such as indigo, mud dye, and cochineal to achieve varying color profiles. Sea Island cotton appears in shirts, T-shirts, and sweatshirts. GORE-TEX is included in certain outerwear for water resistance and air permeability. Visvim footwear and accessories may feature vegetable-tanned leather, which changes appearance over time.
Visvim's product line includes footwear such as the FBT moccasin-sneaker hybrid and the Christo sandal, which draws on work by the artist Christo Javacheff. The apparel collection features the Social Sculpture denim line, with development starting from the yarn to produce jeans. The brand also offers outerwear with GORE-TEX fabrics and natural dyes. Bags and backpacks are produced using materials including Cordura nylon and vegetable-tanned suede.
