Annonay Choco Rusticalf is a chocolate brown color variant of Rusticalf calfskin leather produced by Tannerie D'Annonay in France.[1] The leather features a full aniline finish with a matte appearance designed for burnishing and waxing, allowing it to develop a natural patina over time.[2][3] Choco Rusticalf is tanned on half French calf sides with a typical thickness ranging from 1.4mm to 1.6mm.[1]
The leather is supplied to high-end footwear manufacturers worldwide and maintains the characteristic suppleness and silky texture of the Rusticalf line.[1]
Choco Rusticalf is produced using traditional tanning methods combined with modern techniques at Tannerie D'Annonay, a French tannery founded in 1838 in the Ardèche region.[4] The leather undergoes a currying process that adjusts thickness, softens the material, and flattens the hides before finishing.[4]
The full aniline finish allows the natural grain characteristics of the calfskin to remain visible while enabling patina development through use.[2][3] As an aniline leather, Choco Rusticalf is milled in a drum, making it softer than Tannerie D'Annonay's Vegano leather.[1] The leather polishes to a high shine if required, despite its matte base finish.[1]
Rusticalf is characterized by its limited matte finish, specifically designed for burnishing, waxing, and patinating.[3] This finish allows the leather to develop an authentic patina over time as it is worn and maintained.[3] The aniline finish permits the natural grain to show through while allowing the leather to age naturally with use.[2][3]
The tanning process yields leather with durability, wear-resistance, and aesthetic quality suited to heritage footwear applications.[4]
