C.F. Stead Anise Janus Calf Suede

Like other Janus colors, Anise is chrome-tanned and features full-grain construction with a natural aniline reverse. The full-grain structure provides tighter fibers compared to split suede, resulting in enhanced water resistance and durability. The leather exhibits the same tanning recipe that C.F. Stead has maintained unchanged for 50 years across all Janus Calf variants.

Anise Janus Calf Suede features full-grain construction with an average thickness of 1.4 to 1.6mm and skin sizes ranging from 13 to 15 square feet, consistent with standard Janus Calf specifications. The suede surface displays a fine, silky texture described as having a luxurious lustre, while the reverse side maintains the natural aniline full-grain characteristics.

The golden brown Anise color exhibits rich tobacco hues that provide depth and warmth to the leather. The full-grain construction means the leather's fibers are tighter than split hides, providing better structure and water resistance. Natural variations in color and texture are considered part of the leather's character, with each hide displaying unique characteristics.

The leather is exceptionally hardy and water resistant due to its full-grain construction and C.F. Stead's specialized tanning process. The chrome tanning creates a durable base that retains the material's suppleness while providing resistance to the elements.

Janus Calf Suede was originally developed for Northampton's traditional welted shoemakers and has served as a premium footwear suede for decades. The Anise colorway represents a Viberg-exclusive variant within this heritage line, offering the distinctive golden brown tone specifically for the Canadian bootmaker's collections.

C.F. Stead has maintained the original Janus tanning recipe unchanged for 50 years, preserving the material's distinctive characteristics across all color variants including the exclusive Anise. The British tannery, established over a century ago in Leeds, has focused on premium suede production, with the Janus line representing their flagship calf suede offering.

Viberg produces multiple styles in Anise Janus Calf Suede, all manufactured in Canada at their Victoria workshop. The Service Boot features the 1035 last with E width, stitchdown construction, tan kip lining, natural midsole, and brown Ridgeway sole, priced at £575. The Chelsea Boot is constructed on the 2030 last with Goodyear welt construction, 360-degree natural scalloped welt, and black Ridgeway outsole. The Slipper 2010 from Viberg's Classic Collection, released in 2016, also features Anise Janus Calf Suede.

Each boot undergoes strict quality inspections at Viberg's Victoria workshop, with the full-grain construction allowing for traditional welted and stitchdown construction methods suitable for year-round wear.

Anise Janus Calf Suede can be maintained with occasional brushing using a suede brush and periodic application of water-repellent treatments. The material is designed to hold its shape over time and evolve with wear, gradually molding to the wearer's foot. The full-grain construction allows the leather to be as durable as traditional full-grain leather when properly processed and cared for.
