The Harlech is a straight cap derby boot manufactured by Crockett & Jones since December 2003. Built on the versatile Last 341 with a medium round toe, the Harlech features Goodyear welted construction, double leather soles, and storm welt detailing. The model is available in Horween shell cordovan leather in multiple color options and represents Crockett & Jones' approach to classic English heritage footwear.
The Harlech follows a straight cap derby boot pattern with high leg construction and full lining throughout. The design utilizes Goodyear welted construction, allowing for resoling and long-term wearability. Double leather soles provide durability and structure, while the storm welt adds water resistance and a distinctive visual detail. The boot includes a leather midsole and leather insole, maintaining traditional construction methods throughout.
Each pair is made in Northampton, England, following Crockett & Jones' manufacturing processes established over multiple generations of bootmaking. The boots weigh approximately 2.5 kg per pair and are offered in a standard E width fitting across UK sizes six through 12, including half sizes.
The Harlech is constructed on Last 341, one of the most widely used lasts in the Crockett & Jones collection. This last features a medium round toe shape with an elongated toe box design, making it suitable for both formal business wear and smart casual applications. Last 341 fits true to size alongside lasts 360, 363, 224, 236, and 377.
In comparison to other Crockett & Jones lasts, the 341 measures 6mm shorter than Last 348 and has a narrower toebox. The last is shorter and wider than Last 337, and less pointed than Last 350, positioning it as a versatile option within the Main Collection range.
The Harlech is offered in Horween shell cordovan leather from Horween Leather Company. Available colors include dark brown cordovan, whisky cordovan, and burgundy cordovan. Each hide undergoes a 100% specialist vegetable tanning process and is hand dyed and finished, which means individual pairs may show color variation due to the hand finishing techniques.
Shell cordovan develops a distinctive patina over time, particularly darkening at flex points where the boot bends during wear. This natural aging process is characteristic of the material and contributes to the boot's long-term aesthetic development.
As of 2024, the Harlech retails for $1,500 USD through Crockett & Jones authorized retailers. The model has remained in production since its December 2003 introduction, making it one of the company's established offerings in their shell cordovan collection.
