The Bull Run Chelsea is a slip-on work boot manufactured by Danner as part of the Bull Run collection.[1] The boot features the same construction as the original Bull Run lace-up models, updated with elastic side panels that allow electricians and carpenters to slip the boots on and off when moving between indoor and outdoor work environments.[1][3] The Bull Run Chelsea is built in Danner's Portland, Oregon factory using stitchdown construction and full-grain oiled leather.[1][2]
The boots are available in six-inch and five-inch heights, with multiple colorways including brown, black, and tobacco with black heel.[1] Steel toe versions are also offered for additional protection.[1]
The Bull Run Chelsea uses Danner's handcrafted stitchdown construction, which provides a wider platform and increased stability underfoot.[1][2] This construction method allows the boots to be recrafted, extending their functional life.[1][2] Materials are sourced globally, with partially assembled components shipped to Danner's 59,000-square-foot Portland factory, the largest footwear manufacturing facility on the West Coast.[1][2] The boot uppers are formed and the entire bottom is constructed by hand in the Portland facility, giving greater control over the finished product.[1][2]
The manufacturing process allows Danner to produce a less expensive USA-made boot while maintaining quality standards.[1][2] Each boot is assembled by skilled craftspeople with decades of specialized experience.[2]
The upper is constructed from full-grain leather that has been oiled during the tanning process.[1][2] Danner tests this oiled, full-grain leather through a series of rigorous evaluations to ensure strength and durability.[2] The oiled leather provides increased resistance to water and other liquid damage while requiring less maintenance over time compared to non-oiled leather.[1][2]
Men's versions feature an unlined interior for lighter weight and comfort, while women's models include a lightweight, breathable mesh lining.[1] Both versions include a cushioning open-cell OrthoLite footbed and a steel shank for arch support.[2]
The Bull Run Chelsea features Danner's Wedge outsole, made from a soft polyurethane compound designed for comfort during extended periods on smooth indoor surfaces such as concrete and wood.[1][2][4] The outsole is oil-and-slip-resistant, non-marking, and provides cushioning and lightweight support.[1][2][4] The design incorporates 100 percent ground contact to reduce fatigue, with the soft, lightweight rubber minimizing pressure points.[1] The outsole is not recommended for daily use on asphalt.[1][2][4]
Some models feature a 90-degree heel suitable for climbing ladders or prolonged standing on wood, tile, or concrete.[1] The boots are manufactured with non-conductive electrical shock resistant soles and heels, meeting ASTM F2892 safety standard for plain toe footwear electrical hazard resistance in dry conditions.[1][2][4]
The Bull Run Chelsea is built on Danner's Portland-made 503 last, which has a casual fit and runs true to size.[1][4] The boots are available in standard D width and EE width.[2] Generally, most people size down a half to a full size when purchasing Danner boots compared to their shoe size from other major footwear brands.[1]
The Bull Run Chelsea is covered by Danner's 365-day warranty.[1][4] The boots are eligible for recrafting services, which include part replacement, leather care, and restitching.[1][4] Pricing for recrafting services starts at $140, with turnaround time between four and five weeks.[4] The service is managed by a dedicated team in Portland, Oregon, with trusted repair partners in Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Japan.[4] Danner can repair and rebuild over 150 different boot models through its recrafting program.[4]
