Roccia Vet

Model

About

The Roccia Vet is a hiking boot produced by Diemme, an Italian footwear manufacturer. The name "Roccia" translates to "rock" in Italian. The boot is modeled on traditional Italian hiking boots worn in the Alps, updated with modern sole technology for use in both mountain and urban environments.

The Roccia Vet originated in Diemme's hunting collection before being adapted for city wear. The design maintains classic alpine boot features including a D-ring lacing system and padded ankle support while incorporating contemporary materials and construction methods. Production takes place at Diemme's family-owned factory in Onè di Fonte in Italy's Veneto region.

Design and heritage

The Roccia Vet draws from centuries of hiking boot manufacturing in Italy's Dolomite mountains. The Veneto region, where Diemme operates, has produced handmade outdoor footwear since the development of mountaineering as a recreational activity in the 19th century. The boot's design incorporates elements from working alpine boots including substantial construction and functional hardware.

The boot features a rounded toe and classic D-ring lacing system. A leather loop at the heel allows for carrying when not worn. The overall silhouette maintains proportions typical of mid-20th century hiking boots while incorporating materials such as Cordura fabric in some variants.

Construction

Upper materials vary by model and include full grain leather, suede, nappa leather, and Cordura fabric. The interior is lined with nappa cow leather. The boot includes padded lining and structured ankle support. Sport versions feature a rubber rand that protects the upper from abrasion while maintaining a streamlined profile.

The sole construction uses the Eurosole block method, which bonds the sole directly to the upper. Most Roccia Vet models use Vibram sole compounds. The Christy Morflex sole recreates a historical tread pattern using Vibram's Morflex compound, which reduces weight while maintaining the cushioning and height of the original Christy sole design. Alternative models use the Vibram Begonia sole, a rubber compound that provides traction and flexibility.

The sole allows flexing during walking while maintaining durability under regular use. Hardware includes rust-resistant metal D-rings and tonal yellow polyester laces, with an extra set included with each pair.

Manufacturing

Diemme produces all footwear at a single facility in Onè di Fonte, Veneto, in northeastern Italy. The company operates as Diemme Fashion Group SRL. Each boot is constructed by hand through a series of traditional shoemaking operations performed by trained workers. Production runs are limited in volume compared to factory-automated manufacturing.

The Montebelluna area of Veneto developed as a center for outdoor footwear manufacturing in the early 20th century due to proximity to the Dolomite mountains and the presence of skilled leather workers. Multiple Italian outdoor footwear brands originated in this region.

Variants and pricing

The Roccia Vet is produced in multiple material combinations and colorways. Available colors include black, Mogano brown, cognac, and bison suede. The boot is manufactured in EU sizes 35 through 47. Sizing can vary between models due to differences in insole thickness and interior padding. Diemme provides a Fit Predictor service to assist with size selection for specific models.

Pricing as of 2025 ranges from €395 to €449 depending on materials and construction. The Roccia Vet Full Grain in black or Mogano is priced at €395. Models with nappa leather uppers are priced at €431. Gomma variants, which feature specific rubber sole configurations, are priced at €449. Collaboration versions including the Diemme x Hiking Patrol Woolfelt models are priced at €422, while the Roccia Vet Gala in woolfelt is €440.

Care and maintenance

Routine care consists of removing dust and dirt with a brush after the leather has dried. For more persistent soiling, a cloth dampened with mild soap and water can be used. Preventive maintenance includes regular application of leather cream, wax, or grease to maintain the leather's flexibility and water resistance. Leather waterproofing treatments can be applied to increase protection from moisture.

The leather upper conforms to the wearer's foot shape over an initial break-in period. During this phase, the leather may feel stiff. Wearing thicker socks or using shoe stretchers can reduce discomfort during break-in. Conditioning the leather with leather care products accelerates the softening process. The smooth nappa leather lining reduces friction against the foot and ankle during this period.

The aerated interior lining allows moisture vapor to escape, reducing sweat accumulation. The boots are constructed to tolerate exposure to water, dirt, and abrasion encountered during outdoor use, though regular maintenance extends the lifespan of the materials.
