Type 2 Highlander

The Type 2 Highlander represents Frank's approach to creating specialized work footwear, offering full rebuildability and resoling capabilities. The boot is available with multiple toe protection options, including soft toe, steel toe, and composite safety toe configurations to meet various workplace safety requirements.

The Type 2 Highlander features construction that allows for full rebuilding when the sole wears out. The boot's construction contributes to its durability and enables complete resoling when needed.

The boot features a 3/4-inch thick outsole, which differs from the Type 1 Commander model that uses a one-inch sole. This reduced sole thickness provides increased flexibility for workers who spend significant time in bent or kneeling positions. The design balances protection with mobility, making it suitable for trades requiring frequent changes in body position.

Frank's constructs the Type 2 Highlander using 7.5 to eight-ounce full-grain water-resistant leather. This leather weight provides substantial protection while maintaining flexibility. The boot is offered in multiple leather options, including chocolate roughout, black roughout, and mocha smooth/roughout combinations, allowing buyers to select finishes based on their workplace needs and preferences.

The Type 2 Highlander incorporates a high heel and arch support system designed to balance body weight for enhanced comfort during long work periods. The boot is built on Frank's 55 last, which features an extra-pronounced arch that provides support for workers on their feet throughout the day.

Toe protection options include a celastic #3 toe insert, which is semi-rigid and helps maintain the boot's toe shape without the rigidity of a safety toe. For workers requiring certified protection, steel toe and composite safety toe versions are available. The standard color option is black, with additional leather choices available through Frank's customization system.

The Type 2 Highlander is available on Frank's 55 last, which accommodates various foot widths including EE sizing. The 55 last is notably pronounced when boots are new, providing substantial arch support that some wearers find particularly comfortable for all-day wear. Frank's recommends sizing based on Brannock measurements, with some customers finding success sizing down from their standard measurements depending on sock thickness and fit preferences.

Frank's offers the Ground Pounder as a lower-arch alternative to the Type 2 Highlander. The Ground Pounder features a Vibram Unit Sole designed for extra stability on uneven terrain, making it suitable for workers who require different support characteristics than the Type 2 Highlander's high-arch design.
