About

The Stanley is an Oxford brogue produced by Grenson as part of their G:Two collection. The model features a wing tip with full broguing and represents a classic English brogue style where the vamp is laid on top of the quarters. The Stanley has been part of the Grenson collection in various forms for over 80 years, originally conceived as the successor to the Albert model.

Built on Last 201 with a G fitting, the Stanley combines traditional Goodyear welted construction with a sleek, elegant profile. The shoe is designed and quality-controlled in Northamptonshire but manufactured overseas as part of the G:Two line, which pairs traditional craftsmanship with modern style at a more accessible price point of £295.00.

Design and specifications

The Stanley is constructed as an Oxford brogue, distinguished by its closed lacing system where the vamp sits on top of the quarters rather than underneath as found in Derby or Gibson styles. The wing tip features full broguing with decorative perforations throughout the design.

The model is built on Last 201, which features a rounded toe with a roomy toe box. The G fitting designates a wide width, providing additional space compared to standard F fitting shoes. Grenson recommends purchasing the Stanley in standard size unless a particularly snug fit is preferred, in which case sizing down half a size is advised. The shoe is available in UK sizes 6 through 13.

Construction

The Stanley employs Goodyear welted construction, a method invented in England during the 1800s. This construction technique allows the shoes to be resoled multiple times, contributing to long-term durability. The manufacturing process requires up to eight weeks and involves over 200 individual operations.

As part of the G:Two collection, the Stanley is designed and quality-controlled in Northamptonshire while being manufactured overseas. This collection combines traditional craftsmanship with modern production methods at a more accessible price point than Grenson's fully UK-made G:One range.

Materials and variations

The Stanley is available in multiple material configurations. The standard offering features tan calf leather on a leather sole. Additional variations include ginger burnished nubuck with a lightweight commando sole, and tan calf construction with a lightweight cream rubber wedge sole paired with a natural welt.

Heritage

The Stanley traces its lineage to the Albert, a shoe that has appeared in the Grenson collection for over 80 years. The model was conceived as "the son of Albert," maintaining the classic English brogue tradition while incorporating a new sleek shape and elegant profile suited for both formal and casual wear.

Grenson was founded in 1866 by William Green in Rushden, Northamptonshire. The company relocated to the Green Yard factory in 1874, which became one of the first factories in the world to use the Goodyear welted method. The Grenson brand name was created in 1913, registered as one of the first trade names in the United Kingdom. The company has maintained continuous shoe manufacturing in the UK since its founding.
