The Finn underwent a development process spanning more than five years as HELM worked to perfect the design and fit of the pattern. The boot was named after the son of Nick Fairbairn, who has been instrumental in HELM's growth over the years. The extended development timeline reflects the company's focus on creating a sleek Chelsea boot style that would complement diverse wardrobes while maintaining the construction quality standards established across HELM's product line.

The Finn uses Blake Rapid stitch welt construction. The manufacturing process involves 153 steps performed by 14 master cobblers at a family-owned facility in Brazil where HELM boots are handcrafted.

The boot's construction includes multiple sole layers: a foam insole (which is replaced during resoling), a leather layer, a rubber layer, and a rubber outsole. HELM's rubber outsole is the company's own blend, designed to be soft while maintaining durability through increased thickness. The heel stack features lugged rubber for additional traction. The boot is fully resoleable, with the foam insole being replaced as part of HELM's resole package.

The Finn is constructed from full-grain leather. HELM sources leather from Rusan and Krumenauer tanneries, using Texas hides from the United States. The Black, Brown, and Desert colorways use full-grain Krumenauer leather, while the Sienna version is made in water-resistant waxed suede from Rusan.
