The Adelaide Oxford is a dress shoe model created by Ichigo Ichie Shoemaker, a Vietnamese-Japanese bootmaker founded by Lee Trung. When Trung announced his ready-to-wear line, the Adelaide Oxford was the first model revealed, initially shown in polo-esque suede, mid-brown suede, and black calf variations.[1][2] The model is part of Ichigo Ichie's transition from bespoke work to ready-to-wear production, with manufacturing handled by a team of established makers in Vietnam.[2]
An Adelaide Oxford features a U-shaped brogue pattern that goes around the lacing area, with the facing cut as a separate piece of leather enclosed within the upper's design.[3] While Adelaide Oxfords are typically considered formal footwear, Ichigo Ichie's version incorporates cap toes and suede options that make it suitable for both office and leisure wear.[1][2]
The Adelaide Oxford follows the traditional Adelaide pattern, characterized by a U-shaped brogue that encircles the shoe's lacing area.[3] The facing, where the laces sit, is cut as its own separate piece of leather and enclosed within the upper's design, distinguishing it from a traditional cap-toe oxford where the facing and quarter flow as one piece.[3] This separate facing construction creates a sharper, more elegant aesthetic compared to standard oxford cuts.[3]
While Adelaide Oxfords are typically more formal models, Ichigo Ichie's interpretation includes cap toes paired with suede and various color options that dress the shoe down for versatile wear.[1][2] The model can be dressed up or down, though it functions primarily as office and leisure footwear rather than for rugged outdoor use.[2]
Ichigo Ichie Adelaide Oxfords feature hand-lasted and hand-welted construction with handmade sole stitches at 10 stitches per inch.[1][2][3] The waists are trimmed relatively close and rounded, though not blind welted.[3] Both heel and toe stiffeners are made of leather rather than the plastic stiffeners used by many manufacturers.[3] The shoes include a fiddleback waist, leather insoles, and leather outsoles.[1]
The construction takes many elements from Lee Trung's bespoke shoemaking methods, with some simplifications to maintain the ready-to-wear price point.[1][3] Materials include leathers from Annonay, Weinheimer, and Horween tanneries.[2]
When initially launched, Ichigo Ichie's ready-to-wear Adelaide Oxfords were priced at €470, approximately $500 USD, with shipping costs around $75.[1][3] Current pricing is approximately $600 USD with a leather sole.[2] The ready-to-wear service offers three to four week delivery times when models are sold out, with options to select last width and instep height.[1][3]
Specific variations include the Tobacco Suede Adelaide Oxford at $500, the U-wing Adelaide Oxford on the Chisel Last at $550, and the Dark Brown U-wing Adelaide Oxford at $550.[2] The Snuff Suede Adelaide Oxford is also available through the official website.[1] For the chiseled toe last shape offered in the ready-to-wear line, four different leather options are available at €700 ($800).[3]
