Radical

The Radical features Horween Waxed Flesh leather in an Olive colorway. Horween refers to this leather variously as Huntsman, Waxed Flesh, or French Waxed Calf.[1] The leather is produced similarly to Chromexcel but finished on the flesh (suede) side rather than the grain side. The flesh side undergoes Horween's proprietary hand-dyeing procedure followed by hand glazing to achieve a tight flesh surface and final luster.[1]

Waxed Flesh provides enhanced water resistance compared to untreated roughout leathers, making it suitable for boots intended for outdoor and work applications.[2] The heavy wax treatment applied to the flesh surface creates a smooth, lustrous appearance when new that gradually reveals the underlying nap through wear. The leather can be traced back to World War II, when Horween supplied roughout boots to the U.S. Marine Corps that soldiers coated with dubbin (a mixture of natural waxes and oils) to enhance water resistance.[1]

Because the grain side faces inward, Waxed Flesh is often used unlined, providing comfort against the foot while the protective wax coating offers durability on the exterior.[1]

The Radical is paired with a Dr. Sole #1220 Supergrip Full Sole in Black. This sole features a thickness of 5.5mm, which allows it to pair effectively with a single leather midsole while maintaining flexibility and durability.[3] Precision manufactured in Taiwan, the #1220 Supergrip is designed to complement heritage workwear and classic boots, linking traditional craftsmanship with modern performance.[3]
