About

The Golf Derby is a lace-up shoe model produced by French footwear manufacturer J.M. Weston. Created in the 1950s, the model was inspired by legendary golfing brothers Aubrey and Percy Boomer, who wore J.M. Weston shoes. The Golf Derby features Goodyear welt construction and is manufactured at the company's Limoges factory using artisanal production methods. In 2020, the model was redesigned by the J.M. Weston design studio under artistic director Olivier Saillard.

The Golf Derby is among 40 recognizable models in J.M. Weston's catalog. The shoe is characterized by its rounded apron shape designed for a sporty, casual appearance, and features sole options including an all-terrain rubber sole and a triple leather sole version.

History

The Golf Derby was created in the 1950s and took inspiration from Aubrey and Percy Boomer, legendary golfing brothers who wore J.M. Weston shoes. The model became one of the company's 40 recognizable styles alongside other models in their collection.

In 2020, the Golf Derby was redesigned by the J.M. Weston design studio under the direction of Olivier Saillard, who became Artistic, Image and Culture Director in January 2018. Before joining J.M. Weston, Saillard served as Director of the Palais Galliera, the Paris fashion museum, from 2010 to 2018.

Construction

The Golf Derby is manufactured using Goodyear welt construction, a method that allows the shoe to be resoled and ensures extended lifespan. Production occurs from start to finish at the J.M. Weston factory in Limoges, France, using artisanal methods. Each pair includes hot stamping on the insole with the J.M. Weston logo.

Upper materials include smooth calfskin leather, box calfskin, and suede calfskin options. The shoe features calfskin lining available in natural or black color. Two sole configurations are offered: a standard version with all-terrain rubber sole featuring the J.M. Weston logo, and a triple sole version with high leather soles produced through extra-length vegetable tanning. The notched rubber sole is designed to provide traction across various terrains and weather conditions.

Design

The Golf Derby is identifiable by its rounded apron shape, which creates a sporty and casual appearance. The design features a signature apron seam and characteristic lines that define the style. The round shape allows for easy slip-on and slip-off functionality.

The model is available in multiple color options including white, blue, brown, black, khaki, and taupe.
