About

The Jodhpur II is a model in John Lobb's By Request line, which allows clients to personalize shoes within the Ready-To-Wear range. Built on Last 7000B, the elegant Prestige last with a pointier rounded toe, the boot features Goodyear welted construction with a single leather sole and full-grain calfskin upper with complete leather lining. The Jodhpur II represents John Lobb's interpretation of the classic jodhpur boot style, designed many years ago for the late ruler of the state whose name it bears.

Design and construction

The Jodhpur II features the classic wrap-around ankle strap with buckle fastening characteristic of jodhpur boots. The strap goes through a hole on either side of the leg, fastening the boot onto the wearer's foot and lower leg. Unlike elastic gusset Chelsea boots, the Jodhpur II uses a true strap closure system. The sleek plain toe design suits wear under dress trousers or jeans, making it versatile for various occasions.

The boot is constructed using Goodyear welted methods with a single leather sole. The upper is made from full-grain calfskin in various finishes, including brown suede, black museum calf, and dark brown misty calf. The boot features complete leather lining throughout the interior.

Last 7000B

The Jodhpur II is built on Last 7000B, described as elegant with a pointier rounded toe shape. The last provides a relatively roomy fit, especially in length, and features a beveled waist, a hallmark of John Lobb Paris's Prestige line models. The 7000 last generally requires sizing down from US sizes, often a full size down for standard feet.

Historical context

The jodhpur boot style originated in the 19th century during British presence in India, named after the Maharaja of Jodhpur. The boot was originally designed as a riding boot for polo players, discovered by British tea planters at the Burmese border with India. John Lobb's version was designed for the late ruler of the state whose name it bears, continuing the brand's heritage of creating footwear for royalty and nobility. In 1863, the original John Lobb found fame by producing riding boots for the Prince of Wales, earning a Royal Warrant.

Versatility and use

The Jodhpur II is described as a sturdy, versatile boot made for doing, suited to a wide range of tasks and environments from garden to street to saddle. The substantial sole and ankle support provide stability for various activities. The boot's design bridges formal and casual contexts, functioning as both a practical riding boot and a stylish footwear option for urban wear.

Service and pricing

The Jodhpur II is available through John Lobb's By Request service, which uses existing lasts rather than creating custom lasts as in bespoke orders. By Request pricing ranges from $840 to $9,000 USD depending on customization options, with the specific Jodhpur II retail price at $1,885. The boots are made in England, maintaining John Lobb's heritage of British craftsmanship.
