The Vanquish Blucher Boot is a field boot style produced by Midas Bootmaker, an Indonesian manufacturer based in Bandung. The boot features handwelted construction with a peaked shaft seam and decorative stitching across the toe cap, interpreting the classic field boot design. The Vanquish has been compared to the Edward Green Galway, described as "an aggressive but balanced dress-field boot that with the right configurations has a shot at going head-to-head with the fabled Edward Green Galway, for about 1/5 of the price."[1]
The base model is priced at $340 USD with a lead time of approximately four to six months.[1] The boot is available through House of Agin as a made-to-order product shipped directly from the maker to the customer.[1]
The Vanquish Blucher Boot uses entirely handwelted construction methods.[1] Each boot features a thick full vegetable-tanned leather insole, full vegetable-tanned leather heel stack, and fully handstitched outsole.[1] The construction process is hand-based, with uppers hand-lasted, hand-welted soles, and hand-built heels constructed layer-by-layer using traditional tools including awls, needles, knives, and hammers.[2]
For premium versions, the boots incorporate real leather toe and heel stiffeners made from vegetable-tanned shoulder leather rather than synthetic alternatives.[2] The sole is hand-stitched even when using rubber outsoles, maintaining traditional construction throughout.[2]
Buyers can choose from four construction methods: Norwegian (storm welt), veldtschoen, flatwelt in either 270 or 360 degree versions, and stairschoen.[1] Norwegian construction incorporates functional stitching on the welt wall and provides increased water resistance.[1] Veldtschoen construction turns the upper outward at the front of the boot with two visible rows of stitching.[1] Flatwelt construction offers the most visually clean appearance with the welt lying flat against the boot.[1]
The Vanquish Blucher Boot has been produced in several leather options. Documented examples include J&FJ Baker Russian Calf (not currently available), Maryam Toscanello Horsebutt, and tan roughout.[1]
Midas Bootmaker sources leathers both domestically within Indonesia and from imported tanneries. Indonesian domestic leathers include pull-up leather hand-tanned by local artisans using traditional wax and oil treatments, and roughout leather from the Cisarua tannery, a family-owned facility established in 1949.[2] Imported leather options include materials from tanneries such as Badalassi Carlo in Italy.[1]
Buyers purchasing horsebutt leather configurations pay a premium, with horsebutt versions priced from $490.[1]
The Vanquish Blucher Boot is offered as a made-to-order product with pricing tiers based on leather selection. The base price for local Indonesian leathers starts at $340 USD shipped.[1] Imported leathers increase the price to $490 or higher, with horsebutt options beginning at $490.[1]
Production lead time is approximately four to six months from order placement.[1] Orders require a 50 percent deposit, with the remaining 50 percent due upon completion before shipping.[1] Sizes larger than European size 45 incur additional charges.[1]
The boots are sold exclusively through House of Agin and ship directly from Midas Bootmaker's workshop in Bandung to the customer without handling by the retailer.[1]
Midas Bootmaker produces the Vanquish Blucher Boot in their Bandung, Indonesia workshop. The company operates as a small eight-person workshop founded by Emil Rahmana Putra in 2014, producing approximately 30 pairs of shoes and boots per month.[2] The workshop separated from the Winson Shoemaker brand in 2021 to focus on workwear and casual boots while Winson concentrated on dress shoes.[2]
The production process eschews industrial machinery in favor of traditional hand methods. All boots are hand-lasted, hand-welted, and feature hand-stitched sole seams regardless of whether leather or rubber outsoles are used.[2] Heels are built up layer by layer and attached entirely by hand.[2]
