History
Patrick Woodyard visited Trujillo, Peru, in 2010 and observed local artisans producing leather shoes. Woodyard, together with Zoe Cleary and Nick Meyer, founded Nisolo in October 2011. The founders established the company to create consistent employment for artisans in Peru by connecting their products with larger markets.
Manufacturing
Nisolo manages its own factory in Trujillo, Peru, employing a team of local artisans. The company sets the lowest wage at its factory to meet or exceed a third-party verified living wage threshold. Nisolo also works with partner factories in León, Mexico, and Nairobi, Kenya, which follow codes of conduct relating to wages, safety conditions, and employee benefits.
Construction and materials
Nisolo uses leather sourced from suppliers evaluated by the Leather Working Group. The company's manufacturing approach utilizes traditional shoemaking methods to produce footwear.
