The LCV01 Lineman Boot is a seven-inch handmade lineman boot created by Onderhoud Handmade, an Indonesian bootmaker based in Bandung. The boot features traditional veldschoen construction and represents the heritage craftsmanship of Indonesian bootmaking.
Founded and operated by Rizky Afnan, Onderhoud Handmade specializes in single-craftsman production with limited output due to the handcrafted nature of each boot. The LCV01 model showcases the maker's commitment to traditional construction methods and quality materials.
The LCV01 Lineman Boot utilizes veldschoen construction, a traditional South African technique that creates a distinctive outward-facing seam. This method involves stitching the upper and sole together with the flesh side of the leather facing outward, then applying a secondary sole. The resulting double-seamed construction provides exceptional durability and waterproofing, making it superior to standard welted construction for demanding work environments.
The seven-inch height design follows traditional lineman boot specifications, originally developed for electrical workers who needed sturdy footwear for climbing and working on power lines. The tall design provides ankle support and protection required for such demanding applications.
The boot's construction incorporates premium leather materials sourced from established tanneries.
Certain LCV01 editions feature Wickett & Craig Buck Brown leather, sourced from the Pennsylvania-based tannery established in 1867. This traditional harness leather undergoes vegetable tanning using time-honored jack glazing processes. The jack glazing technique brings natural oils to the leather's surface, creating a distinctive glossy finish while preserving the hide's natural grain structure.
Buck Brown leather develops rich patina through use, gradually darkening from its original lighter brown coloration to deeper, more complex tones over time. This aging characteristic makes each boot unique to its wearer's usage patterns.
The LCV01 represents Indonesian bootmaking tradition centered in Bandung, recognized as Indonesia's fashion capital due to its concentration of textile manufacturers, fashion designers, and creative industries. This heritage stems from Dutch colonial influences, which introduced welted footwear construction to the region during the colonial period.
Onderhoud Handmade operates from Gang Pak Elas, Sukagalih, Bandung, maintaining traditional handcrafted methods in an era of industrial production. The company's designation as a "Single Craftsman" bootmaker reflects the artisanal approach to each pair of boots.
