Really starting to love these boots. I bought them for my work where I help my customers install warehouse software. They are rapidly becoming my go to everyday boot. Like slippers for the outside world. I still don't think they are fully broken in yet. They have never really "squeaked", but they have always creaked... kind like a sailing ship in a movie. Or a new leather jacket. But that creak is hardly audible now. Also, the kilies (which I loved for the look) have come out. From the beginning I really struggled with heel slip in my right boot. Then I tried putting kilies in another one of my newer boots that I held off on putting them in... instant heel slip developed. So out the kilties came from those boots, and these Wood Butchers also. I don't think I'm in the anti-kilty camp, but I do think that kilties work for some boots, but not others. With the reinforced gusset, I just don't think boots like the Wood Butcher needs them for ankle reinforcement. Its overkill that had me fighting heel slip and real break in around the ankle. I have been using Nicks quarter insoles for arch support on and off. As the veg tan insole wears in, I think I'm at the point where I have the arch support I need. So, at least for now, insoles are back out. I haven't babied them, these have been my "everything/anything" boots. From mowing the lawn to working on my sister's place, to traveling through airports to spending a day walking warehouse concrete... These were the boots on my feet. You can see how they scuff on the outside heels. Not much in the way on patina makers... Pretty resilient IMO. I plan on hitting those spots with some burgundy Venetian Shoe Cream. Maybe finishing with burgundy Venetian Shoe Balm to restore the look of the finish. They're great boots that look great. They will be on my feel anytime I'm on concrete.
