These 403s were purchased used in June of 2025. They were in virtually new condition with zero scuffs on the Chromexcel. I have made them my constant daily companion since September 9 so the wear you are seeing is from that date to now.See background
Why did you choose this item?
I had heard about the legendary comfort- and everyone was right. Most comfortable boots I own. And they are so cool. Indy wore them.
How did you determine your size?
I was fit at Alden Madison. They started with my Brannock size which was 8.5D. I felt like I was slipping and they looked too long. The size 8D was perfect. Rule of thumb is a half size down on the Truebalance last.
What was the ordering process?
I wound up buying a pair off eBay.
Use & wear
I wear these to school everyday. I got the boots in the summer of 2025. They have been my constant companion ever since. I wear my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots on the weekend.
Leather
They scuff if you look at them too long. Chromexcel wears quickly. I just let the scuffs be scuffs. I walk the broken brick streets of Savannah so she’s take a beating here. My typical day is 10K steps. These get a workout.
Fit
Like walking on marshmallows. Mephisto Match shoes would wear Indy 403’s if they could- they are that comfortable.
Craftsmanship
There’s some loose threading starting to unwind near the right shoe vamp/lace area. I am wearing out the heel into the fiberboard heel stack. I will get leather heel stack and new top lift after the Thunderdome ends.
Sole & heel
No issues on Savannah’s broken brick sidewalks and streets. I haven’t worn them in heavy rain but that is coming in a month or so. I know to be careful in wet conditions with the neocork sole.
I love it. It looks cool and I like the extra support under my arch.
Final thoughts
I just love these boots. My other favorites are my Wolverine 1000 Mile with double tap mini lug soles and my Viberg 2030’s with the modified Ridgeway soles Bedo put on for me. I also wear my Alden shell straight tip boots. I am getting a pair of 405s as well. Those will have the cambrelle lining.
