More about this item

Non-folded perforated toe cap. 5 brass eyelets, 4 brass speed hooks. Leather laces. These have a leather midsole and toe plates. 160 degree folded upper and 360 degree sole stitching. Emil Rahmana Putra helped me figure out the details for my order and one special detail is that he signed the insoles for me. He took the first photos for me before they shipped, and his wife is the one wearing them in the first photo.

Why I own this

Style
Workplace Needs

I wanted something understated and beautiful, well finished, and something that ages well. I saw Winston boots and shoes, I thought they were gorgeous, and I knew I wanted Emil to make me a pair of boots. I knew I wanted to wear it everyday to the office but also wanted to feel good kicking around on the town too. I love how natural Horween ages and tells a story, so I knew I wanted that in my first Patina Thunderdome pair. Emil helped me with other details. I went with the toe taps to protect the longevity of the leather toe, and I just like that little detail. I like the comfort of well worn leather soles.

How I sized

Circumferential Measurements
Compared to Other Lasts

I took measurements of my foot and sent to Emil. I also gave him my brannock size and size in other boots that fit well. I told him I wanted them to fit like a glove, which they do. I wear

Ordering process

Purchased from Winson ShoemakerTotal cost: 1,500 USD Lead time: 7 months
Direct Message

I reached out to Emil at winson.indonesia@yahoo.com. He sent me an MTO form and I kicked around some ideas with him for a month or so. I finally placed my order and sent a deposit. It took me about 6 months to receive my order.

Use & wear

Office Work
Leisure
Travel

I've worn them nearly every day to the office. I walk around town in them, usually on hard surfaces. I travel in them (some of my patina photos were taken on a trip to Belize). I've noticed my brake pedal has worn prints in the left boot from operating the clutch. I just wear them, doing whatever I happen to be doing that day. I don't really hike or anything in these. If I'm going out in the mud, I wear something else.

Care Routine

Color Change

The leather has darkened significantly and the color has taken on more red and yellow hues. They were almost peachy when I received them. It's been fun watching them change. I brush them often and put a little saphir renovateur on them when they look like they need it. When I do, I use it on moderation, let it dry, then brush it until the boot shines.

Satisfied with the Fit

Fits like a dream. I have never had a pair fit better.

Craftsmanship

Midas Journey Derby Boot

I have absolutely no complaints. They were beautiful boots when I got them, and even more so now.

Sole & heel

Durability
Comfort
Design

Very comfortable. I have not needed a resole. I think I still have quite a while until I will need one. Traction is adequate for what I use these boots for. I love how leather feels. I don't think anything is quite as comfortable or looks quite as good around the office.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

I'm just glad I got to experience wearing these for the dome! I've put many miles in these and they tell the story of 6 months of my life. Not insignificant! I look forward to many more miles.
