I had a hard time finding boots that could survive my job. Nicks Builderpros solved that problem.
I just went with my normal shoe size. Chose 55 last because others said it was good.
Very good website with lots of options. Painless ordering experience.
My first pair of Nicks Boots. I originally got them for retaining wall work and landscaping. I wear them while cutting concrete blocks and paving stones which means they have been exposed to a crazy amount of silica dust and concrete slurry. I have worn them just about everywhere. Lots of hiking, camping and fishing.
Not sure what made me choose the 64 Walnut, but i think it has aged beautifully. Over the years with many brushings and treating with Onenaufs grease, the roughout lowers have developed a kind of waxed flesh look. Break in was a bit rough because they were my only boots at the time, so no rotation, no breaks. Had a couple hotspots that went away after a week or two. These were my first PNW boots and i did not realize how great the fit can be after the leather is broken in. As far as leather care goes, i just hose them off after work, and let them dry overnight. I brush them every few days of wear to redistribute the oils and keep them looking sharp. Because of the amount of silica dust they are exposed to regular cleaning and re-proofing is critical. About once per month i deep clean them with saddle soap, and give them a generous application if Obenaufs grease. Extremely tough leather.
My first experience with the 55 last. No complaints. Fit is perfect. No toe rub with the composite toe. Lots of wiggle room. I use foam insoles in the summer, and switch to a thinner felt insole in cool weather. This allows me more room for a thick wool sock.
The craftsmanship is top notch. 10/10 I am blown away how well constructed these are and the ability to resole or rebuild is awesome! Excellent attention to detail.
Years of use and still going strong. Due for a resole after this season.
Classic heel height makes walking hills and standing on ladders easier. Heel cap is excellent quality.
