More about this item

This is the Nicks x Carl collaboration engineer. However, due to my boot size, Nick's was unable to fit the original v-bar half sole to the boot. Given that constraint, Nick's worked me, and we changed the configuration to feature a leather outsole.

Use & wear

Office Work
Leisure

These were mostly subjected to office work, no real intensive testing took place at the test track to subject these boots to more of the elements. These boots were also worn to events with family and friends (i.e. Oriole's playoff game, holiday gatherings, etc.)

Color Change

There has not been much change with the leather over time. I have questioned since I received the pair, whether I actually received Waxed flesh as certain panels certainly feel like cxl. However, I have been assured by Nick's, and with some more wear, maybe I will get some change on the boots. Though, they do look good as they are.

Satisfied with the Fit

I like the fit of the HNW last for me at 12.5D once my foot is in the boot. My only real issue is when I go to remove the boots. I have noticed myself questioning if I really wanted to wear the boots knowing the struggle that would ensue when removing the boots. Especially, if I wore slightly thicker socks. There is that point in the shaft of a laceless boot where your instep and heel hit the transition from lower boot to shaft that was tight on these (especially when brand new).

Durability

I think the design of Nick's engineer boot results in a good-looking boot. I did have an issue with a tear in the panel of my boots. Nick's offered to rebuild the boots, but after such long, wait to get my murawski collab engineers. I opted instead to take a slight refund for the defect in the production of my boots. It is a testament to Nick's that it has not gotten worse, though there were times I wondered if this was they day a catastrophic failure would occur.

Comfort

I personally really enjoy leather soles. It has been extremely comfortable. I have not needed toe taps on other boots, but this pair would benefit from them being installed during to wear at the toe. I plan to have them installed, and the sole should last quite a bit longer before a resole is needed.

Block Heel With Quabaug Top LiftWorn for less than a day, current heel
Durability

The quabaug top lift has held up, with no issues and minimal wear.

Final thoughts

Other

I have enjoyed the boots and obviously kept them, but if I were to do it again, I would have taken up Nick's offer to rebuild them and just accept that it would have been another year before I got them back. They can be difficult to remove with certain socks, which has made me second guess wearing them on occasion. Overall, it's a good boot that, even with its flaws will last but may not be for everyone.
