I like how it looks much better well worn than at the start of the break in, but that is true with a lot of leathers i suppose. but i think going from the black to brown undertones looks most natural once it’s not so concentrated in the first creases and dings. i’ve only brushed em for the most part besides hosing em off once when i got concrete dust all over em. break in was pretty easy but i’m not much for complaining about break in usually anyway. seems to do pretty well with water and snow and i’m sure even better once reconditioned now like they were new. Probably going to go with a smooth leather on my next pair of boots but i would recommend a waxed flesh pair to anyone interested.

Satisfied with the Fit

I have high arches and wide feet and the 55 last does me well. not my first pair of boots in the last but my first pull ons—i went a half size down and i think it was a good call. very comfortable and supportive and any heel slip initially present went away at some point during break in.

Great boot. I really like the height for my uses and think it will feel odd to go shorter with other boots now that i am used to it. pull loop is great. construction is super solid and all of the finishing and details were perfect like i have come to count on from nick’s. at one point i left em outside the door to dry overnight and a rat ate part of the roll top and nothing came undone so not sure if that speaks to something about the construction but if not it’s still a… fun… anecdote. definitely a more rugged, heavy duty looking engineer platform than many of the popular non-pnw co.’s. You still get that flattened toe, vintage type look eventually but you gotta earn it.

Great soles that did me well over the winter ~7500 ft in CO. Not as much snow as usual to be fair, but held up good when it was around. dont wear too fast in my use but i’m on dirt often so ymmv.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

This is my second pair of nick’s and both have been great. I have been primarily wearing pull on boots for several years and exclusively for a few and could imagine getting a pair of palouse in the future. These things are easier to dress up or down than i see a lot of people make out as long as you’re not wearing a whole costume along with em. I was curious about the black waxed flesh and i although i wasn’t sure how much i cared for it compared to smooth leathers at some points early on ive come to really appreciate it after seeing the progression over 6 months.
