Always wanted a pair of ND1s, they were the first pair that got me interested in boots but they’ve certainly were already sold out. I’ve been waiting for the MD1s to come back for years.
Used the Nicks sizing guide and their customer service, I decided to size up to better fit my thick winter socks.
Ordering was smooth by Nicks just through their online store. I live in the UK but was visiting my in-laws in the US a few months after ordering. We were able to line up the shipping with the visit so I could do a fit check without the hassle of international shipping.
These have been my daily drivers for just about everything life could throw at them. From working in the office and walking down city streets to DIY; I’ve been putting the ND1s through their paces. Living in Scotland we have excessively wet weather especially during the winter, acidic peat bogs, and general muck. These boots have been champions through it all with no fuss, and only a handful of quick brushings to keep the dirt off. They broke in quick, especially after a week when I took them rocket engine testing during a rather stormy week in the Scottish highlands. They also spent a few weeks glued to my feet doing DIY after we bought our first home.
These broke in really quickly for me, hardly any discomfort except for a bit of pressure on the top of my toe for a few days during the two week mark. They have been superb through the wet weather with hardly any brushing required. All I did was quick brush them once a month to get the dirt off. Only one cleaning session was required with saddle soap after I spent a few days grinding the concrete floor in our garage. The leather has stayed very waterproof throughout the past 6-months, and we get A LOT of rain in Glasgow. It has no doubt helped develop the beautiful rough out nap as the wax has rubbed off. It’ll be hard to choose to wear any other boots during the Scottish winter since it feels like the ND1s were made for it.
The lineman patch of this leather has been fantastic, certainly gives a very secure feeling and has been just as durable in the Scottish weather.
I intentionally sized these up to wear with my thick wool socks and using those the fit is perfect. The thicker socks are ideal for my wintertime but I wish I had another pair in a smaller size so I could wear them during the summer too! The toe room is amazing and I’d give a double thumbs up for the Thurman last.
The design is sleek, the two tone looks great. Nicks construction is some of the toughest around and there have been no issues with the finishing.
The V-100 lug is great hiking through the peat bogs and even walking around the city all day my feet just don’t hurt. This is the first pair of boots I’ve ever worn that I’m not on a hurry to take off after I get home. I’ve put a hell of a lot of miles on the boots as well but the sole is still in really good shape.
The ND1s have been amazing in every way and Nicks has been so responsive and engaged with the community. I will definitely be looking at getting more Nicks in the future, maybe something on the 55 last next time!
